Hello all,

I figured this was a good place to put this as I suspect it has to do with activation.

I'm currently upgrading my friends windows 7 home machine to windows 8 pro.. I have already upgraded him to windows 8 using an already activated key (This laptop I'm working with will NOT be activated, so I used the key purely for the installation.)

I attempted to use the "Add features to windows" feature in Windows 8, and my first attempt accepted the Windows 8 Pro upgrade key I received from ExpertZone (This key is completely unused at this point).

The upgrade got interrupted and I had to force close it. When I tried to start the upgrade again, it would no longer accept the exact same key. It said "This key won't work. Check it and try again." The thing is, I never re-entered the key.. it got copied from the first attempt, so I know they are identical entries.

Has anyone encountered this? Should I attempt an upgrade outside of Windows using a boot disk?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

For reference --> The unit in question is a Lenovo Z575.

You can not use a Windows 8 Pro upgrade key on a Preinstall Windows 8 HP PC.
You need to use the Pro Pack, or full Retail.

This machine is a Lenovo Z575, which has already been upgraded from it's OEM install of Windows 7 to Windows 8.

The issue has been resolved. I was able to upgrade using an 8 pro ISO that I gained access to.

As stated in my Original Post: the key I had was a "Windows 8 Pro upgrade key I received from ExpertZone" for completing a Windows 8 Accreditation.

This issue is solved and all product keys are legally owned.
