I had that.

Couldn't fix it.

Gave up.

It seems to be fairly common, and some of us think it's probably a glitch in the activation process.

Apparently it SOMETIMES rectifies itself. Mine did not.

EDIT: - Just thinking, my (very early) Win 7 Ult build would sometimes also do something similar, but
a re-boot would usually fix it. No such luck now with 8, tho... :(

If you continue having problems, post a LicensingDiag report.
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window (in Start, type 'Command' - a Command Prompt icon will appear, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator)
At the Prompt, type

Licensingdiag.exe -report %userprofile%\desktop\report.txt -log %userprofile%\desktop\repfiles.cab

(note the spaces!)
two files will be put on your desktop -
open the 'report.txt' file in Notepad, and copy/paste the results to your response - you can ignore the repfiles.cab file for the moment, as it's only backup data

The system is complaining that something has tampered with the Trusted Store (0xC004FE00)- and a system file has been modified in some way (C:\Windows\system32\slwga.dll)

I would expect an SFC or System Restore to work.
Try the System Restore first - back to a time when it was showing as genuine.
then post another LicensingDiag report

Please follow my instructions rather than going off at a tangent.
You now have TWO tampered files, and the Key in use is now a Vlome License Key which requires your own activation server for activation purposes.
You cannot hack around like that and expect things to keep working!

Install Win 7?

This is yet another of those unnecessary irritations that are driving me AWAY from MS and W8.

How anyone can build such a good OS, yet stuff-up just about everything else around it is beyond me.

And it doesn't work anyway.

Nor does restoring from an 'activated' image.

No idea. Been trying for a couple of days.

But, on top of all the other niggles with W8, this is the deal-breaker.

At this stage, I'll be going back to 7 as soon as my RTM Enterprise expires.

I've given up on Pro, and have deleted it.

I'm simply not prepared to take the risk.

MS' piracy-paranoia is OK UNTIL it affects MY user experience.

This obviously does.

And it is certainly enough to make me want to stay well away.

Normal Windows Keys do not expire :)
(Beta Keys do expire, and new TechNet Keys also expire)
In that case try an SFC

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following command

SFC /SCANNOW

When complete, copy the CBS.log file to the Desktop, and compress it, then attach the compressed file to your reply, reboot TWICE, and run a new Licensing Diag report - post the results.
