Hello,
My hp pavilion dv7 laptop has been updated to W8 about 2 weeks ago and a few updates were succesfuly installed since then. Today though, it downloaded 14 updates and I restarted it so it could install them. The problem is I am now stuck at update 12/14 for the last 3-4 hours. At first I thought it was only a long update, but now I seriously doubt it. I have never ever had an update running that long.

It says I must now shut down the computer during the installation but I can't do anything else either...any tips? I have closed the screen after 3 hours (which puts it in hibernation) but after opening it it went back to the same place...

Thanks a lot!

Hi duro195, welcome to the forums, switch the power off, try to install one by one( leaving a couple of days in between), one of them or all of them broke my installation yesterday and had to do a clean install. I wouldn't install any updates at the moment.

Thanks for the tip. I let it run overnight though and it installed all by itself without my intervention. Unfortunately I forgot to turn off auto update and now it's installing another batch. Same issue. Been stuck on 3/5 for the last 5 hours...I think i'm just going to wait another night and turn off this feature. Maybe in a month that'll be fixed.

I'll email microsoft the issue when my computer is back in service, asking what to do with that.

Is anybody else experiencing this?

I worked my up from a virtual machine, to a slow 32-bit celeron and now two monitors on my XPS8100. Works great!
I have a HP too and the updates got stuck on 12%. Tried everything, in the end had to do a system restore

Comp is working but not as good as its use to be.

Are the windows developers aware of this as many seem to have the same problem, are they going to release an update that allows updates to work properly e.g in hp laptops...?

I had the same issue with an HP laptop yesterday and I power cycled it after each update was installed. Everything is fine now...

Hi guys, new here and to Windows 8. Just got a new HP on Monday and this morning, when I turned it on, it started an auto update and now is stuck at 12%. Is there a way to interupt this so that I can go in and reconfigure the settings?

Another Win 8 bug... Updates not installing without stopping and restarting the install. When is the real version coming out? I will be using Win 7 until then.

That's wierd, I haven't had update issues. Any one think it could be the machines themselves since they're retail builds. Or Antivirus/malware scanner causing the sluggishness?

Normally it is Windows Defender; other updates seem to work most of the time. They have tried to combine a firewall and antivirus and have managed to over power their ability. MS needs to get back to programming and stop playing. Message sent from Win 7 that works...
