Just found an announcement from Microsoft on my question about doing a clean install with Windows 10:
If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer. "

Thought I should share this
Not one of my 2 pcs running windows 8,1 pro nor my 3 latps running same have asked for the windows upgrade to 10, one of them the icon disappeared, not even my surface pro 3 has asked for the upgrade yet
Is Windows 10 really free for windows 8.1 users?
for how long?
Worth the effort of upgrading?
Yes it's completely free for the life of your PC.
I think it's worth the effort, however it's personal choice.
So why on all my windoes 8.1 machines including surface pro is it not asking to domthe upgrade?
BTW ... In the recovery It says I only have 1 month option to go back to 8.1 ...
