Windows 8 tablets: Not open for business

Was reading this article on ZDNet and as I'm not into tablets then a lot of it went over my head. Surely though this was not how MS intended it to be?

The mind boggles at some of these decisions by Microsoft. They seem to be poised to shoot themselves in the foot as far as Windows 8 goes.

I'm speculating that Microsoft will be relying on other tools, such as RIM's Blackberry Mobile Fusion.

Sometimes these sorts of articles are just a load of "Little Round Objects".

W8 WILL be fine -- it's fast and easy to use -- don't worry about the current crop of metro apps --you don't have to have anything to do with them.

W8 in new phones will also kill the "Dumdroid" system -- probably the worst implementation EVER of an OS.

Also are people really so imbecilic that they wouldn't be able to get used to W8's navigation system.

I know loads of people who find using an Apple computer no problem even though they've used Windows for YEARS.

I for one won't be unloading a lot of MSFT stock just yet.

Maybe these articles are a load of old ******** but that's the media for you and it's the sort of thing that MS are up against.

I hope MS make a success of Win8 as personally I'm fed up with the must have latest Apple fashion accessory trend, irrespective as to whether it's going to be any good in the real world for the user - apart from inflating their ego with their chums.

Don't think there's going to be any mass defection to Apple simply because MS may release a dud. There's nothing wrong with Win7 and certainly for me there wouldn't be any benefits to shell out shed loads of $$$'s to Apple.

The fruit company should stay in the basket! They overcharge on everything to start with!

As far as 8 turning out to be an ME III we'll find out sooner or later as time goes on. But as I had previously mentioned after 7 being a large success this would be the time MS could take to look into other ventures.

With 7 being a strong stable OS for the desktop MS could now look at grabbing up some space in the mobile market by introducing some new ideas as far as an OS is concerned. I don't see it as being a strong leader in the desktop dept. while it will see a more positive reaction on the mobile market over the Google blonder OS!

The main problem in the mobile market with the exception of netbooks is once you choose a particular brand and model of whatever cell phone, smart phone, tablet, etc. you are stuck with whatever OS or plan is used!

Now as far as people migrating to another OS that was seen more with the trend once the bad rep was placed on Vista. Once people heard the good news about 7 the reverse migration came about. Will 8 cause them to reconsider or will they simply get past the new "Windows dressings" and take a serious look at what else 8 will be offering besides... that dreaded word again... Metro?

As far as the various blogs and other things seen in the pre-RTM days with any new version take them with a grain of salt! Often it may prove to be a lot of hot air in order to fill someone's blog page!

We'll learn more about what MS has in mind once the Release Preview becomes available late next month. I think that will likely be the build that will show if 8 will make it or MS simply may end breaking it.

I figured Windows 8 would make ARM tablets useful, but the decisions Microsoft has made them rather useless. One can't install printer drivers, install a torrent client, or even a third party anti-virus; at least later on.

This will set up Intel and AMD in being the main Windows slate hardware manufacturers, as it always has been.

Technically the need for Antivirus for WOA is greatly reduced (if it's needed at all).
Printer drivers will admittedly be an issue (but 90% of all printer drivers are available through windows update, so...)
Although there are no metro Torrent applications yet, they are coming.

As far as printer drivers in most cases the OS preinstalled would simply detect the make and model and provide generic drivers from it's own driver base. You have to remember the OS on Tablet PC is a bit different from the desktop/laptop OS to start with there. And as IceFire stated the MS updates would likely cover the rest depending on how old the printer is.

Don't rule out malwares however. While you don't generally run into as many for tablet being aimed at desktop OS and the other guy's OS more so lately there are some out there!

Sometimes you may encounter a fake app for tablet to avoid. Even some bogus phone apps are floating around to be aware of. Often these are intended to collect personal data for things like identity theft. It never seems to fail then when anything becomes popular the malware writers go to work!
