Get 100 free MP3 albums from Microsoft

Windows 8 and Windows Phone users only

For a limited time, Microsoft is offering 100 free albums when you install the company's Music Deals app. That's pretty incredible, but there's a catch: only Windows 8 and Windows Phone users can take advantage of the giveaway. Also, it's kind of a pain to get the albums, at least on a PC. (I haven't tried on a phone.)

It's well worth the effort, though, as the freebies include lots of big-name artists: Eminem, U2, Katy Perry, Norah Jones, Mumford & Sons, James Taylor, the Rolling Stones, Green Day, Ellie Goulding and so on. Most of the albums are at least a year or two old, but that doesn't make them any less appealing.

A Guy

I was checking that out in the Xbox music app in Windows 8.1, and the albums that interested me were albums I already own (like Joshua Tree and INXS: Kick). Was hoping for some stuff that I have on my wish list. But still, this seems like a nice thing that MS is doing.

Hi there

Afraid that sort of music would STOP me from buying a Windows phone -- also typical mp3 compressed music isn't very nice when played through proper high end equipment - even at 320kps you can still hear artifacts etc.

Now if they offered say some Opera or other classical music I could be interested.

Cheers
jimbo

I downloaded the app and went to "Holiday Freebies" but there are only 50 free albums, not 100. Of the 50 they offered, I actually downloaded only 3. Most of the rest were artists I had never even heard of. 3 free is better than none. 1 John Lennon album and 2 Rolling Stones albums.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
Didn't bother looking as looking at the list of artists half I'd never heard of so wouldn't be my kind of music, it's not old enough. :p

This happened to me too, a reboot fixed it. Good old windows - 3.0 to 8.1, some things never change.

LOL, I mitigated the issue by using my Windows Phone to download.
