Mozilla plunks ads into Firefox

Mozilla kicked off its long-under-development plan to run ads in Firefox with the launch of version 33.1 on Monday.

The ads, which Mozilla calls "sponsored tiles," were first discussed by the company in February. In the months that followed, Mozilla defended the in-browser ad project against critics who called it a betrayal of the organization's philosophy, saying it was important to find other revenue sources besides its long-standing deals with search providers like Google.

Firefox 33.1, the special 10th anniversary edition released Monday, included the first instances of sponsored tiles. It followed the August introduction of the ads in Firefox's "Nightly" build, which is analogous to a pre-alpha edition.

I wonder if the betas and nightlies that proceeded v33 RTM had it. Now if you have a lot of sites of your own filling up the new tab page, you won't see these tiles. But if you clear all of your cache and history, it will appear.

On new tab page of Firefox 33.1.1 i clicked the X in upper right corner of the Ad Tiles on every one and so far none of them have come back.
Even when cleaning History and cache they did not leave then. I have not done what Edwin showed. See when they come back, so far haven't. Only new websites i access do so far.

That's exactly what I did too (see Mozilla KB).
I noticed that doing this creates a new line "browser.newtabpage.blocked" in the preferences "about:config".
This way, the excluded (deleted) tiles won't come back unless the user reinitialises this line ...

See that !! Most are already criticizing Firefox . So far has not come back, without doing the tweak mentioned before. We'll see.
Actually wasn't that bothersome since i did not use feature of New Tab much. Still seem like it better then IE.
