Windows Home Server Code Name “Vail” Goes International

We’ve received great feedback from you on the release on our public beta of Windows Home Server Code Name “Vail” last month. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to give us your feedback and ideas. I’m happy to announce another update for the beta: starting today, German and Japanese editions of the Vail beta are now available for our international friends. Both the server and client components are completely localized into these two languages in this edition of the beta.

To download these versions, please go to http://connect.microsoft.com/windowshomeserver to sign up for the download. You can also provide feedback through the Connect portal, which is used to log ideas and feature suggestions for future versions of Windows Home Server.

We will keep you posted as other language versions become available. In the meantime, keep those cards and letters coming!

My personal opinion is that Microsoft have lost the plot with this one.
I am using WHS V1 and love it because it is so simple to use and it does what it is supposed to do (be a HOME server NOT a BUSINESS server), the only problem is that there is no 64bit version.
So what have Microsoft done to rectify the situation, they have produced a server that is very complicated for the average home user instead of keeping it simple.
I tried it and found that it is entirely unsuitable as a basic home server and have changed my windows 7 from 64 bit to 32bit so as I can continue to use V1
Sorry, end of rant

Turns out that VAIL is ONLY x64, so my current server cannot use it.

Aw.

I just built a WHS i1 server with an Atom processor, works fine, then Vail came out and my server won't run 64Bit. if i spent another $50 i could have run Vail. :(

Why did you have to switch back to 32bit? 3 out of 5 of my computers are 64bit and all run fine with WHS 1. Am I missing something??

When you try to do a recovery the server can't be found because of driver problems between 64 and 32 bit.
This will not happen with ALL computers but just some.
There are workarounds available but they again only work with some computers.
My computer worked in 64bit until I replaced the motherboard and then found that I was one of the unlucky ones that could not run 64 bit.
If i was you I would try to do a recovery and see if it can log on to the server and then cancel out, If it can't do a recovery it's not much use to you.
