What kills me is there are a Plethora of fake VLC apps, some or most that do absolutely nothing. No functionality, wont even play video's let alone a DVD and you have to pay for them without a trial period so when you find out it does absolutely nothing your stuck. Here's the killer - Videolan is made to jump through hoops to get there app on the store. I read that Microsoft partnered or is helping with the port and maybe due to there involvement reputation and all, want to make sure the app is good before releasing it. Funny how they are concerned now considering some of the apps they put out themselves. I do love Windows 8.1 and I like a lot of the apps available, as a matter of fact if I can find a Metro/Modern app that does a decent job I will replace the old Windows app. Only app I currently using that does not have a port is Media Center. The only 2 things Left in Media Center is Live TV / PVR functionality and playing DVD'S. Once VLC is available it will be only Live TV / PVR functionality.

Edit - I should clarify this. I am using a Metro/Modern app called Movie Premier that will play DVD movies I own and ripped to my Hard Drive (VOB) format. But the app will not play a DVD from my Blue-Ray DVD drive (blue-ray or standard format). I am hoping that VLC is capable of playing from the drive Even if it's just standard HD.

I'll assume you mean vlc for metro, as I've used vlc on 8 since day one.

It's still not passed as of right now. Still awaiting certification as posted by Videolan team member earlier today.
