I know it's an older thread, but I had the misfortune of seeing how the metro pdf reader behaves. There aren't enough cuss words to fling at this app. I had to install the normal pdf reader. Who in their right mind would use the app pdf reader on a desktop. When you're reading or working with a pdf you usually have other multitasking things going on. Trying to do that with the stupid pdf app is just plain dumb. That was definitely only built with a tablet or phone in mind.

I got fed-up with acrobat reader wanting to update every time on the rare occasion I did want to use it and having to take readersl out of startup every time it did, so have been using chrome ass my default pdf reader for over a year now. It says that it can't display all functions properly (or something like that) but I have never had any problems.

metro pdf is pretty much pointless on a desktop system.

Windows 8 to Have a PDF Reader Out Of the Box[Rumor] | Windows 8 Beta

Hi there
applaud your effort - but W8 ALREADY has a PDF reader -- although it's one of those HORRIBLE full screen metro apps -- I rarely use this type of stuff in Full screen mode on a PC since I'm often comparing documents or copying pieces from several documents when making a presentation.

I'll stick with adobe or foxit or one of the other "traditional desktop" pdf readers.

The metro app is fine for tablets etc but not traditional desktops - especially if you are using large external monitors as well.

However how do you CLOSE this wretched app after enabling snap right or snap left. -- I had to get into Task manager and close it that way !!!

Grr! I HATE metro apps on the desktop.

Cheers
jimbo

That's what happened to me which prompted my post. I killed it in task manager and uninstalled the app. And then downloaded the non-metro version.

PDF out of the box? Well it may have been but certainly not for long. It was well and truly put back in the box before 15 minutes had passed and 2 crashes.

Just because your usage makes full-screen superfluous it doesn't mean the app is not fine for 'traditional desktops.' Also, FTR, you close a Modern UI app that's been snapped the same way you would if it was full screen. Just click at the top and drag it down.

Also... Alt - F4 will completely close any metro app. No need to close in task manager.

Just click at the top and drag it down.

you haven't answered the question here -- HOW DO YOU CLOSE THE APP AFTER YOU'VE SELECTED THE SNAP RIGHT / LEFT.

I'm not saying in every situation Metro apps aren't fit for purpose -- but for traditional desktops I have my doubts and so far the only solution people have come up with for closing the PDF metro app after you've selected the snap right or left choice is to kill it via CTRL -DEL + task menu.

Please guys -- at LEAST READ AND understand posts BEFORE REPLYING TO THEM -- I'm beginning to get the impression that a lot of people answering posts are "Sub Teens"who probably have not got a single days experience in a commercial workplace.

I'm not a horrible person but some of the reply's I've seen lately on this and the W7 Forums lately make me question what's happening now - as nobody seems to know how to use GOOGLE and do the most elementary bit of "Self Research".,

Cheers

Forgive me, Jimbo, for stepping in here.

Am I missing something or do you not know putting the focus on the snapped app and pressing Alt - F4 closes it completely? You can verify by looking at the task manager a few seconds later.

Also putting the mouse pointer at the top of the snapped app until you see a hand and dragging it down does the same thing. Apologies if this is not your point.

I use PDF - XChange Viewer if any editing or conversions are necessary.
The free metro PDF viewer is not a professional grade application.
It is only a free basic viewer like the free acrobat version.

I thought this was already known? This application is decent the only thing I don't like is that it seems to open in metro by default. (maybe I'm thinking of something else) It's decent if all you are doing is reading a PDF.
