Microsoft’s Next Windows 8.1 Update to Be Called...

Microsoft has only recently launched the new Windows 8.1, but the company is already working on the next two updates scheduled to be released in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

While the spring 2014 rollout is very likely to be called either “Update 1” or “Spring 2014 GDR Update,” the 2015 round of improvements could be actually baptized Threshold.

Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet is reporting that OS head Terry Myerson has recently revealed this name during a private meeting, saying that Microsoft is on track to launch it in early 2015.

While Redmond hasn’t obviously talked about such plans, the same report states that Threshold will actually be the update that will bring all Windows versions together, as Microsoft has made it public that it wants its future OS releases to merge some of its products.

When I blogged recently about Microsoft's plans on the operating-systems front following Windows 8.1, I mentioned a couple of "spring 2015" releases.

It turns out the Microsoft code name for that wave of deliverables is Threshold.
A couple of my contacts have confirmed that Microsoft Executive Vice President Terry Myerson recently mentioned the Threshold code name in an internal e-mail about plans for his unified operating-system engineering group.
If all goes according to early plans, Threshold will include updates to all three OS platforms (Xbox One, Windows, and Windows Phone) that will advance them in a way to share even more common elements.
(The code name Threshold, for those wondering, derives from the planet around which the first halo ring orbited in the original Halo game launched back in 2001. Threshold joins Cortana, Microsoft's answer to Siri, as yet another code name with its origins in the Xbox franchise.)

Well, let's see. According to the Dictionary.com app I have installed, the synonyms for "threshold" include:

brink, dawn, door, doorstep, doorway, edge, entrance, gate, inception, origin, outset, point, point of departure, sill, start, starting point, verge, vestibule

Hmm. I guess "Threshold" is okay. But I don't know about you, but Inception and Vestibule has a nice ring to it. :D

Well, don't go and change your nick to "Threshold" now "Brink" is easier to write.
P.S.
I think somebody ( a popular moderator preferably, wink. wink) should start a "Sticky" theme or thread called something like (How I screwed my Windows) or "How to ruin my OS". I have seen so many ruined Windows by "Home experts", that it's not funny any more but some hilarious mistakes too. Many a time I tried to recreate circumstances for some screw-ups for diagnostic purposes to help people with problems but was unsuccessful.
