What Do You Think Of The Windows 8 Picture Password?

One of the coolest things that we’ve seen come from Windows 8 is the new picture password log on feature. For those of you who don’t know, this is a new method of logging in. All the user has to do is draw a pattern and tap in a certain location and sequence to unlock their PC. It’s quite a cool feature if you ask me, however it’s been slated be some security experts.

Kenneth Weiss runs a three-factor authentication business called Universal Secure Registry and is the inventor of RSA’s SecurID token. Here’s what he had to say about it

"I think it’s cute, I don’t think it’s serious security"

Hi there

IMO the best password system would be either to enter a complete LONG pass phrase :

For example " I kicked my Grandma's cat out of the house" (Do you think I don't like cats -- correct !) or :

Load Windows with initially say 12 questions and answers of a type only YOU would know either the meaning or the answer of. At logon Windows would RANDOMLY choose 3 out of ther list (different each time) and only log you on if the answers to all 3 were correct. After 2 Failures (everybody can make a mistake) Windows would not allow a logon for at least 60 Minutes.

Cheers

I think it's quite nice. For laptops, it's usable. I personally haven't set a picture password up for my desktop since I don't need to, but I think I'll look into that.
