Windows 8 pre-Beta Windows To Go - SoftpediaWindows 8 Beta is not quite done yet, but it’s certainly worth looking forward to, just for the new features it will introduce, if nothing else.
Case in point: Windows To Go. Microsoft has already demoed this particular feature at BUILD in mid-September 2011, but did not include it in the Windows Developer Preview it offered to early adopters for testing.
Windows To Go allows users to install Windows 8 on a USB device, and take the bootable copy of the operating system with them.
And it seems that Windows To Go has just made an appearance in the latest interim Build of the next iteration of Windows, according to Winunleaked.

This feature ay you have posted isn't available on the current release of W8 developer preview --however if you have n earlier edition it was available -- I could never get it to work however even though I tried on different types of USB sticks. (Please don't ask where I found the earlier builds !!).
The ones MS gave away at their presentation IMO had some sort of firmware or mod done to the USB sticks.
The feature will definitely be useful provided
1) it will run on most types of USB sticks (4GB and above)
2) No special "Firmware tinkering" with the USB stick needed
3) ability to "customize it" such as adding some recovery programs like partition managers, backup / restore, internet and file browser.
I'm trying to sort out a way of "Minimizing" a W7 (or W8) operation so that I can get a Mini USB live W7 / W8 to run rather like the Hirens boot CD does with its mini XP (but legally !!!).

I'm kind of excited that there will be a Windows version where it actually lets you do this. I've finally reached the Promised Land of a flash Windows operating system with Windows 7. 8 will be next.

WinPE has been available for years, and can be downloaded from the MS site.
With a little tinkering you can add many programs to it, and run it off of a USB memory stick.
This is permitted by MS.
There is a windows 7 version from a SF member, that works very well.
With this available from Windows 8, though supposedly only for IT professionals, this will be a great tool.
