Microsoft Releases Malicious Software Removal Tool 5.4

Just like all the other Patch Tuesday cycles, this month’s brought us a brand new version of the popular Malicious Software Removal tool that provides users with a quick way to get rid of specific forms of malware.

As usual, Microsoft hasn’t provided us with updated release notes for this particular version, but it’s safe to assume that build number 5.4 brings detection and cleaning capabilities for more malware.

If you have Windows Update switched on, it's automatically downloaded/run monthly as part of Windows Update. This month the Win32/Simda trojan was added to it.

"This month’s Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) release includes one new malware family – the high-volume banking trojan Win32/Simda."

If I'm not mistaken, the version numbers change monthly.
5.1 - June 2013
5.2 - July 2013
5.3 - August 2013
5.4 - September 2013
