Botched Patch Tuesday Updates Also Causing Problems on Win

As I’ve reported a couple of hours ago, three of the updates released by Microsoft on this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle are causing trouble to Windows 7 users and ask to be installed over and over again.

While KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583 patches are reportedly affecting Windows Vista and 7, two different updates seem to break down Outlook 2013 on Windows 8 and 8.1.

Both KB2810009 and KB2817630 are reportedly responsible for a number of issues, including an empty folder pane, unavailable list of email accounts, folders and favorites.

Uninstalling these two updates seems to be the only way to fix these problems until Microsoft rolls out an official workaround.
Botched Patch Tuesday Updates Also Causing Problems on Windows 8, 8.1

Hello,

I have a simular problem with 3 patches in W8 for Office 2007.
They are asked nobe installed again although they are coorectly in the history list.

I putted them into the hidden list because otherwise they are reinstalled again and again...

I am also wating for a solution.

RitaHubert

Microsoft botches still more patches in latest Automatic Update

No sooner did Microsoft release the latest round of Black Tuesday patches, than screams of agony began sounding all over the Internet. At this point, I've seen verified problems with KB 2817630, KB 2810009, KB 2760411, KB 2760588, and KB 2760583. Here's what we know at this point.
Again, as of 00:15 am PDT on Wednesday, Microsoft hadn't pulled any of the patches, nor had it updated the KB articles, posted any recommendations on the usual fora, issued a press release, or made one iota of effort to help its customers.

Does this make you feel warm and fuzzy about automatic app updates in Windows 8.1? Terry Myerson, are you listening?

Let's just say the first time is a mistake, but the second time you start to feel paranoid. As in, are the Windows 8 updates failing like this?

I had the missing folder pain issue in Outlook 2013. Not knowing what patch caused it I ended up just uninstalling and then reinstalling office 2013. I had only just installed it with a clean install of Windows 8.1 RTM and hit Windows update. Now that I know what likely caused it I'll just block those two updates. I think one of them failed anyway.

At least we know it's just incompetence and not some crazy marketing idea to botch older patches vs. newer.

Well don't know about just W8, the same 3 updates are doing the same thing on my Vista 32 bit machine, along with my W8 x64 machine , So I don't pin it on W8, its the damned updates themselves, this has happened before with other updates.

[h=1]How to Remove Any Botched Windows Update Released by Microsoft – Guide[/h]
Unfortunately for many consumers out there, Microsoft doesn’t seem to spend so much time testing the updates it’s releasing on Patch Tuesday, so many users are in the end forced to deal with all kinds of errors caused by botched fixes.

This is the case of this month’s security updates, as some bulletins released today are said to be causing havoc on basically all Windows versions currently on the market, including XP, Vista, 7, 8, and even the new 8.1.

While some claim that the botched updates are breaking down a number of Office tools, others reveal that the same patches are trying to install over and over again, even if the initial setup seems to work just fine.

I believe that link will only show installed updates, not failed updates.
The only way I have found in the past, is to uninstall the registry of updates. This will leave you with a blank history in the "Windows update - View update history", but you can still see the history in the Control Panel - programs and features option.

Microsoft has pulled the update which caused problems for many users of Outlook 2013 from Windows Update.

The update description page ("Description of the Office 2013 update: September 10, 2013") does not mention the withdrawal of the update. The revision number for the document is still 1.0 and the links to the standalone installers for the update are still present. The files are still available for download.
