{Win 8 } Are Windows Tablets what the public wants most?

A new survey from the Boston Consulting Group has put Windows out firmly on top with regards to desirability for a Tablet operating system. The survey, reported by AllThingsD shows 42 percent of US citizens wanting a Windows tablet while only 34 percent wanted an iPad and just 18 percent wanting an Android tablet.

In a study earlier this year by Forrester showed 46 percent of people wanting Windows as their tablet operating system compared to just 16 percent wanting an iPad.

Does not amaze me. I am one of the 42% - waiting for a Windows 8 seven inch tablet.

Most people are familiar with Windows - and Android is an OS put together with scotch tape and band aids. From Apple I would not buy anything - as a principle.

    Hi there
    can't agree with this

Tablets etc. are fine for a lot of cases -- but have you ever tried creating a presentation (powerpoint) or a sophisticated EXCEL spreadsheet with loads of macros etc. on a tablet.

The PC is not - or ever likely to be 100% replaced by tablets.

    cheers

There are already Windows 7 tablets. The best right now would be the HP Slate. I wonder how they asked these questions. Did they say that there is a Windows 7 tablet that they could buy right now? Or did they ask if they would like to see Microsoft to make a tablet?

The companies want to sell Windows 8 tablets since they sold millions of Windows 7 Desktops and Laptops.

I'd honestly like one, but I think if I had to choose between a W8 and an iPad, I'd go for the iPad. Not because of how it looks or its hardware, but because the interface is so... human. If Microsoft can properly refine W8 into a tablet OS, I would consider it.

I'd have to say I agree there. I have an iPod and my sister has an iPhone. In any small device, whether it be phone, MP3 player or tablet, I prefer Apple. Desktops and laptops of course, I prefer Windows.

If I had to choose between a Win8 tablet and an iPad2 tablet, I'd choose the one already available.

Y'all loves ya some semantics, don't ya? Welcome to reality ...

However, once a Win8 tablet does get released, I might reconsider.

Well, you're right in some respects. It is difficult to base opinions on something that is unreleased, but the likelihood is that a W8 tablet will resemble the desktop version of W8. I suppose we'll really just have to wait and see.
That said, how would a W8 tablet compete with an iPad 3?
