Last chance to subscribe to Technet (31 Aug 2013 deadline)

I'm sure it's been posted here before, but just in case anyone missed it, there's less than a week to go before Microsoft stop accepting new subscriptions to Technet.

The last day is 31 August 2013.

One of the best software deals around is about to be retired. Microsoft announced today that after 15 years it will shut down its TechNet subscriptions service in 60 days. Microsoft has other, similar programs, but none are as generous as TechNet.

The hands-down best deal Microsoft ever offered is about to shut down. The TechNet subscriptions service will continue for a little more than a year, but some important deadlines are coming up fast. Here's what you need to know.

Hi Everyone,

TechNet will be very well missed by everyone at the end of the day, it was a great service...

My agreement runs out in June 2014, and that will be the end of the line, I called TechNet and I was going to renew my licence but I was told that it will be a waste of my time and money the June 2014 when my current agreement ends, its over and if I do renew now and later in will be within the new guide lines and the new policy will be in full affect...

It will be Interesting if or all of these current activation keys work or stay active for me after June 2014?

RIP TechNet I loved this service for the last 15 years....

Hi there
It was brilliant for those that wanted to run things like computer labs at home and try out expenseive server software -- great learning platform too.

MSDN is far to expensive for most of us to switch to that service -- however I think a lot of people abused the TechNet service which is why it eventually got shut down.

My subscription ends in Aug 2015 --then I will miss it --R.I.P TechNet.

Most activation keys will work "Ad infinitum" -- there's no expiry on these.

Ensure before the service shuts down that you download any copies of software you think you will need and get your keys for example things like XP sp3 , Windows 2008 / 2012 server or even the 64 bit version of XP plus of course Office 2007/2010/2013.

Cheers
jimbo

Mine runs out in 04/09/2014. I've been slowly acquiring any product codes I think I might need. I'm retired and don't do a lot of evaluation builds so I don't really need very many product codes. The ISO's are what I'm after. I'm the go to guy for family and friends with computer problems so having clean unmodified install images is a god send for me. They have almost always lost or misplaced their original install media. I've been downloading XP and onward, plus office 2007 and onward. I have an MSDN subscription to fall back on as part of my MVP status so I'll be covered for a while. I've found a few things I can get on one but not on the other. Being able to get an ISO for 8.1 will be a big plus.

I'm curious if one has license keys to Windows 8 whether the keys would work for 8.1 ?

Good question. The procedure that has been released by MS is to install 8 with its key and then update to 8.1 through the store. As of now MS is not looking to release a 8.1 ISO to the general public and if you can get a legit 8.1 ISO will your 8 key work? Hopefully it will be made clearer when released on Oct 17.

I think that's a wait and see type of deal. It would be nice if they did. There are separate keys listed on TechNet and MSDN for the preview. I can remember reading that 8.1 would except 8.0 keys but now I can't remember where I read it or how accurate it was?
