Microsoft KB2859537 Update Causes BSOD on Windows 7

As we’ve reported to you this morning, one of the critical updates released by Microsoft on Patch Tuesday causes more harm than good on some computers, so the company decided to pull the patch completely.

Now it appears that another update, this time KB2859537, is causing lots of problems on Windows 7 computers, with some users claiming that in most cases, installing the fix leads to lots of unexpected BSODs.

“When I install KB2859537 on my Windows 7 X64 machine I get a BSOD during reboot either trying to boot normally or trying to boot in safe mode. Had to restore the primary disk three times now to get the PC back,” one user reported on Microsoft Community.

As I’ve reported a couple of hours ago, Microsoft has found that two of the updates it delivered on Patch Tuesday caused problems to users, so it decided to pull one of them, while investigating the reports for the second.

Now it appears that four other fixes included in this month’s update cycle are leading to a number of errors on specific computers, so the company has decided to remove all of them from Windows Update and the Download Center.

Oh, that's great, and I'm pretty sure I installed that package into a system that was already Bluescreening.

    Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
No problems with my Win 7 install. A quick comparison of the system specs on a handful of PC's experiencing the issue would most likely identify the cause. My first guess would be a driver issue, but its just a guess.

Microsoft botches six Windows patches in latest Automatic Update


In an amazing tour de force, Microsoft's Automatic Update chute released at least six bad patches on Tuesday. Here's what's amazing: It's just 48 hours or so since the bomb bay doors opened, and Microsoft has acknowledged problems with all of these patches. That's a first, I think -- and the biggest positive development in the Automatic Update minefield I've seen in a long time.

Microsoft has had no end of problems with patches lately, with at least four botched patches just last month. For a change, this time the company is 'fessing up to it -- quickly and as best I can tell accurately, and the mea culpas are posted where they're supposed to be posted.

I installed this but uninstalled it after reading this post, did not have any problems just wanted to be on the safe side. I see it is still there when I check for Microsoft updates, so they did not remove it. What should I do, install it or wait a little longer and see? What is the latest on this update? Thanks Lynn
