Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
To be honest, Dell's tablet offerings are not very good. The hardware is not so great, and they haven't marketed them at all. Meanwhile, the Surface, Asus, Sony, and other devices have had a lot more exposure. I'd be interested to see the sales figures for those.

I'm sure. I'm also sure you'd keep parsing things until you tried to find some way to justify that Microsoft products were doing well. That you have to, proves that they simply aren't.

Nobody is going to be impressed that Microsoft has moved maybe 1.5-2 million Surface devices, when Apple does 25x that for iPads in the same quarter.

Apple owns the tablet market right now. That's all there is to it. No single tablet maker moves anywhere near Apple's volume. My primary tablet is still an iPad 2.

But, apple is coasting. After the death of Steve Jobs, they haven't shown any new creativity. Unless they get back in the saddle, the Android and Windows tablets will start passing them by.

I'm not saying that Microsoft tablet PC's are doing well. You're imagining that, apparently. I simply said that Dell is hardly the bellwether indicator, as their tablets are simply not very good. I even said i'd be interested to see how the other vendors are doing.

My inside sources at dell tell me that 8 is doing real crummy especially on the business side. Most companies get 8 then return it for 7

Maybe because the number of w8 on PCs is so irrelevant that it's not even worth mentioning...

Certainly in the UK it is difficult to buy a PC without Windows 8 on it so anyone buying a PC will get windows 8 like it or lump it.

I noticed it and my first thought was towards those who jumped on my butt and told me Win 8 and 8.1 weren't designed with tablets or phones in mind.

And if I had no choice but to get one I would immediately dump Win8 and put Win 7 on it.

Dell usually makes decent PCs, I've never seen a Tablet made by them. Sounds like they are as new at it as Windows 8, so they are not going to have any decent products along that line for a while.
