Microsoft aims to fix trackpad behavior in Windows 8.1

Windows 8 users who've struggled with trackpad issues may find some relief in the finished version of Windows 8.1.

Current trackpad drivers designed for Windows 8 can't necessarily take advantage of all the features and gestures available in the operating system. To rectify that problem, Microsoft, Intel, Synaptics, and Elan are teaming up to directly enable pointer, multi-touch, and gesture support in Windows 8.1, according to The Verge.

Good relief, this was one of my biggest gripes with Windows 8 the trackpad was just not a responsive and smooth as it was in Windows 7.

With the release of Windows 8.1 the drivers have matured a bit and the trackpad feels a bit smoother than early drivers for Windows 8 even though the trackpad drivers I'm using on Windows 8.1 are Windows 8 drivers and not natively designed to take advantage of Windows 8.1's new touchpad features.

Hopefully Microsoft can get 3rd party hardware driver developers to have new trackpad drivers designed natively to take advantage of Windows 8.1 new touchpad features ready before the retail launch of Windows 8.1 update.
