Signing in to Windows 8 with a Windows Live ID
Each Windows user wants to have the ability to set up and use a PC in a way that is unique to them. Doing so, however, can be challenging in today’s multiple user and multiple PC environment. We know that shared PC usage is common and we’ve heard from many of you that switching between multiple accounts can be cumbersome. The difficulties associated with managing multiple accounts often lead to the sharing of a single account on a PC, and a less personal (and potentially less private) experience for each user. We also know that users are utilizing multiple devices more often now, and setting up a new PC can be inconvenient and time consuming. In Windows 8, we have set out to ensure that each PC user has a truly personal experience that seamlessly bridges their online and offline tasks, is simpler to set up and use, and persists across their set of Windows 8 PCs. To do this, we’ve introduced the ability to log in to Windows (optionally) with a Windows Live ID that works across devices, apps, and services, allowing you a uniquely personal experience with Windows.

SkyDrive, Live Connect and other New Windows 8 Implementations
Windows 8 will bring many new features, ranging from a new GUI to ARM. It will also let users more easily bridge the gap between online and offline by directly tapping into Microsoft’s Windows Live service. This will be the beginning of a new user experience, not seen before.

Windows 8, x64, DP8102 - Win7 Ultimate x64, Dual Boot
Thanks, Jan. I guess I'm going to have to get a LiveID one of these days - especially when I get the new Windows Phone 8 coming soon to a store near me (I hope - sometime ... maybe ...)

Its good to hear that they are integrating the live accounts more into W8. When I installed W8 I input my live account details and my name and little live account picture turned up! . One feature I am really looking forward to is direct access to skydrive from windows and the metro app, at least I wont have to use 3rd party software anymore

Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 and Windows 8 build 7955
Just a useful little feature that I noticed when I was playing with this. I had visions of not being able to get onto your PC if you logged in using your Live ID and the machine was offline or your internet was down.
In fact though, W8 assumes the last password you signed in with is still valid, and will use that until it goes back online.
