Apple's Tim Cook tells Microsoft: Ours is bigger than yours.

In his keynote address at WWDC, Tim Cook couldn't resist dissing Microsoft, at several points badmouthing the paltry growth of PCs and Windows 8, and contrasting them with Apple's much bigger growth numbers. Size certainly does matter...but are Cook's claims really accurate?
Apple's Tim Cook tells Microsoft: Ours is bigger than yours. | Computerworld Blogs

Perhaps Timmy is being a bit disingenuous...

But the decline in PC sales wasn't limited to the Windows PC market: Sales of Apple's Macs in the U.S. also declined in the quarter, by 7.5 percent, according to IDC estimates. That's roughly half the Windows decline, but the first major decline in Mac sales for several years, suggesting a broader shift to tablets such as Apple's iPad and other mobile devices is under way. (Gartner earlier reported its estimates that Mac sales in the U.S. grew 7.4 percent, so all eyes are on Apple's Apri 23 earnings announcements for hard data.)

IDC: PC sales drop precipitously, Mac sales also decline in major market shift | Computer Hardware - InfoWorld (April 10, 2013)

BTW the same article also states....

PC shipments fell across all regions worldwide, and the market is headed into a further contraction than previously expected, IDC said. The industry is at a crossroads where the future of PCs is being questioned as users move to alternative computing devices such as tablets and smartphones, said David Daoud, a research director at IDC.

tim cook should just boldly state, "We'll bash on Windows 8 and even Windows Phone, but we'll gladly steal, copy, IBS, molest, and make horrendous the modern design language called metro."

Wow. Just wow. :sick::sleepy::what::sick:

To describe ios 7 is nothing more than simply stating, it is of offense to my eyes.

But to extrapolate, ew. It's literally like if apple took two blobs of play dough, one being android 4, one being Windows Phone, and just mushed them together along with the old crap of ios and called it revolutionary. Genius! Strange translucent UI pieces with obvious iconography that can ONLY be from Windows Phone. This is not "fresh" nor "light," it is validation of the metro modern design form of the Microsoft Modernists. It is a sign that for one, apple is copying from a major competitor. Two, they are not original anymore AT ALL. Three, they can't design good software worth SHITE. To have a company that believes that they and they only build the best of what they build to just radically alter the software (as well as hardware) like in the face of growing and fierce competition can only mean what they have simply isn't the best.

The texting app screenshot looks almost spot on to Windows Phone if the background color was set to white and corners were rounded.

Newer iconography is EXACTLY what is seen only from Windows Phone.

Older flattened iconography look more along the lines of Office 2013, even Windows 8 but with more weird color gradients on all of them. That safari icon looks like a damn thermostat.

Multitasking "card feature" is EXACTLY like on Windows Phone 8, of which will be more improved in Windows Phone 8.1.

The awkward looking glass? translucency reminds me of android 4, but again is more skeumorphic. It looks like something you would see in videos or photos that are blurred to mask a face or something otherwise obscene. Makes perfect sense.

The home screen looks like it should be on a cheap colored plastic toy.

Fonts that are used that are thin and light, my GOD that is from Windows Phone.

Now let's start on mac os x 10.9 Mavericks (what the hell, it was all feline animal names now it's a popular surfing spot in California?), ummm, yeah. Windows 8 thievery I see first off with the Calendar app. Going from leather stitching to simple white background UI with colored appointments, sounds freaking familiar.

"Oh, we're not going to combine a toaster and a refrigerator together like Windows 8, but we'll gladly take ios and morph it into mac os." Wow, another 10.x release, another dose of ios, the ONLY platform from apple that makes it even remotely relevant.

And yet, ALL of those, from mac os to ios, are PURELY AESTHETIC. There isn't anything ground breaking in either ios or mac os, well ios has actual better multitasking/switching than ios 6, maybe a simpler way to get to simple settings. Other than that, it's just all a Windows Phone/android knockoff. If they did this three years ago, THEY would be the ones getting praise for doing something modern and progressing UI design, progressing ios in general. Instead, they are too late in a time where everything Microsoft is currently prevalent in tech media, where Microsoft design is currently at the forefront everywhere (you'll even seen google copying this later as even now). Something like DESIGN that is traditionally apple territory has been turned over to be grasped by Microsoft.

apple is taking a HUGE risk here with ios. It has been found out internally that the design is polarizing. Another similarity between ios and everything modern Microsoft designed, it is polarizing. apple is currently advertising things of the iphone like "it's the most used device to listen to music," or "we take pride in what we do." They're trying to justify why they are the best, in the face of the consumer who is going to android or Windows Phone.

Or maybe it should be taken as, "The best Windows Phone ever."

You are utterly hilarious.

and make horrendous the modern design language called metro

Metro is horrendous. Apple created something completely different, it has depth. Any suggestion they copied from metro is ludicrous. Sir Johnathan has done an amazing job.

I don't have any Apple stuff, but I have to give credit where it is due. Their whole marketing/design is excellent.

Everyone made MP3's and did a bad job of it. Apple made one and changed the world of listening to music. They were not first to the game, they took what was there, refined it, and signed it. They are doing the same thing now. You seem to have created some expectations, then complain about how horrible of a job they did when they didn't meet your requirements. I see what you did there.

Do you expect Apple to come up with everything? The world is filled with designers that come up with great ideas. Apple takes as well as creates. An idea that Microsoft or Google comes up with might be a great fit for iOS. Apple will take those ideas and incorporate them into iOS. I expect them to do that. I'm glad they do that. There are many Windows and Android innovations that needed to make their way to iOS. It's strange you find a problem with that. Stinks of fanboyism and you're mad Apple now has those features too. The question I have is, who did it better?

I'm looking forward to many of the new changes in iOS 7. Specifically the Control Center and updated Calendar view.

While I use a Windows PC as my primary computer, I am still invested in the Apple ecosystem with iCloud and iTunes Match.

Until Microsoft can offer the same seamless ecosystem, I will continue to use a PC/iPhone/iPad "tool belt". ;)

LOL! Spy vs Spy. :D

We may as well argue Monet vs Picasso. > "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".

My 2 cents worth so far as aesthetics:

First off, I'm sick of looking at icons. I've been looking at them for, oh, what? 18 or so years now? What a relief to see Metro design. After seeing the site below, although a step in the right direction with uniform radius-cornered squares, it's still an icon.

Overall the phone looks sterile to me. Like it belongs in an OR.

Not talking functionally, but when it comes to looks, one may as well buy a Droid. It's far cheaper.

Apple - iOS 7

Nice interactive site BTW. I have to hand it to Apple for advertising. They do a good job at it. I'd like to see what they spend on it vs MS.

This "beholder" likes this:

Nokia Lumia 928 - Windows Phone with PureView Camera - Nokia - USA

Check out the videos and specs. I think Nokia did a first-class act here with this phone.

What the hell is one going to do with an Intel processor on an android handset? I don't buy smartphones to run intensive tasks like...simply running the OS. That is just ridiculous.

And that is surprising coming from YOU, Mr. "I hate tablets, they are useless and can't replace desktops but I'll totally go ahead and post how an Intel based smartphone is by far superior."

Wow, talk about hypocrisy...

No, I ain't mad, just repulsed.

I could care less about mp3s, and who used them best.

I do care about utter thievery. That's something that even steve jobs despised with android. I DO NOT expect apple to be taking from others because they are just too high and mighty basically to do that. They believe they are the best at what they do, yet they take from their competitors? And it's not even innovating what they took, they didn't take a feature and make it better, they just slapped it on there. Honestly, after I cool down about that, I will be totally fine about apple taking from Windows Phone in terms of general design as I've already said, that just validates what Microsoft has done for the past few years now.

And OBVIOUSLY ios 7 will be taken up quickly, there numbers aren't there to suggest otherwise. But will everyone like it? Nope.

Take it easy, Cokie. He may be tempting me with an easy sell. He's somewhat on track.

Thanks for that info, SIW2.

This may be what I'm looking for. "Man Sized". I think Leveno is on track here innovation wise. A "phone/pad/super camera" combo. Pads are too big to make a call on. I think this will be the way phones will go, although I doubt women may not be attracted to them much. Look at the specs of this thing:

Lenovo K900 - Full phone specifications

Quite impressive. The big drawback for me is Jelly Bean. I'm tired of Android and not a big fan of Google. If they or someone puts WP8 on a phone this size with similar guts, then I'd buy one today. No doubt. The largest one that I can find now is the Samsung Ativ S with a 4.8 inch screen. The 928 is 4.5 inch (which is the way I would tend to go right now). Way smaller than "Man Sized" K900 5.5 inch. :( Of course one has to look at resolution also.

As I've been reading up on ios 7, I have a couple more things to expose that have already been done on similar/other platforms.

itunes radio...ummm, Smart DJ on Xbox Music. itunes on ios, sounds even more like Xbox Music+Video on Windows Phone, and Xbox Music on Windows 8 connected to the SkyDrive cloud.

Safari syncing, something that chrome on ios already does and has done for a while.

This AirDrop thing really reminds me of a feature way back with the Zune HD where you could use wifi to immediately share song files or what have you with someone nearby.

I'm surprised you can't sort images by date on ios until 7.

Automatic app updating? Windows 8.1.

The lockscreen still reminds me of android 4 or blackberry 10.

I'm also just more surprised it took mac os engineers to work on ios 7 so it get behind on schedule. All of that work for simply something that was flatten out UI wise with not many tangible features that would even require more help. Software engineers, apple are not.

I am not a fan of google either. I think the idea is that Ubuntu replaces Android, tho it runs android apps.

I don't know what Samsung is doing with Tizen yet.

Maybe that will be worth having.

I don't know why you hate tablets. Phones and tablets are fine for what they do.

Is it just you hate anything that isn't MS ?

Is there a treatment for that?

Well, if you want a Windows Phone handset that is by far superior phone/super camera (13 MP is a skittle compared to this)...

Like a Lumia 920, just with AMAZING camera technology. Also kind of looks like it has more of a Lumia 900 body...

I don't like the over 5 inch screens. Seriously, I have big hands as it is, and even 4.5 inches is almost a stretch use with one hand. When you HAVE to use two hands to use a phone, that is what is called a design problem, or helping people with shoddy eye sight.

No, I was talking about YOU.

Why would anyone need an Intel processor for an android, PHONE. Not a tablet, not something that is even a proper tablet, but a PHONE. If this were on Windows Phone, I would say THE EXACT SAME. There isn't even anything remotely needed at all to have such hardware on a, PHONE.
