Windows Updates: The secret life of Windows 8

Windows 8 will drive tablets, desktops, and laptops with ease. Even with such a big undertaking it still has time to be doing lots of stuff in secret.

Say what you will about the ability of Window 8 to handle every type of computer out there, it can do so fairly well. Sure there are some things easier to do in Windows 8 on a touch tablet, and other tasks more natural on a desktop or laptop. It's clear Microsoft has tried to handle every user scenario possible.

Even with keeping track of all the different control methods possible to handle all of the user scenarios possible, Windows 8 has a secret underbelly that is a little spooky. This secret life is where Windows 8 does all of the behind-the-scenes maintenance required to keep things running smoothly. It almost seems as if the entire time I am getting things done using the system, the system is checking for updates to keep things running optimally.

Secret Updates - It's causing my Main PC to lock up in the middle of the night. I never allow automatic updates, and I have them shut down- But these are updates for my Windows 8 Metro Apps, which I would prefer to update manually as well. This was what happened right before my system locked up the last time - Which was yesterday AM. If this were my iPhone, I would go ballistic - Because I use all kinds of Apps in their original versions, or versions which were better - Like Pandora 3.1.8, it was the last one that had the ability to show you the time elapsed, which was a popular feature they trashed. If Apple were to do this, the complaints would fill the sky! (Or, the Cloud).

    Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Usually when you go to restart your PC, it will show "Update and Restart" or sometimes even "Update and Shutdown." Pretty nice I'd say. If you don't want to do that, usually if you're on a mobile PC, you'd hit Sleep and if you tweak power settings like I do, it will go to hibernate after 30 minutes to save battery life.

The apps I'd rather keep updated. Windows Store apps get reviewed, and bugs will get reported, and developers (the ones that make the better Windows 8 apps) will update them to address issues. But I always read the change logs of the apps before updating.

Overall, updating isn't something I would complain about or anyone else not wearing aluminum garments. ;)
