A new build of Windows 8.1 has surfaced on file sharing networks this week along with a host of screenshots providing a fresh look at Microsoft's plans for its Windows 8 upgrade. Build 9369, a more recent build than the previous leak, includes some tweaks and changes as work continues on Windows 8.1. Microsoft hasn't made any significant changes in this build, but the company appears to be improving the multitasking interface for multiple "Metro-style" applications.

I did a quick read, it appears to be more of the same to me. A dumbed down operating system created for the brain dead consumers of social media rather than the creators of application content.

That's my take on it, too.

If the desktop gets demoted further than it already is in 8, if the issues of desktop users are not satisfactorily
addressed, if there's nothing that's been improved 'under the hood', if deleted options do not make a return,
or if it's more cloud-oriented than 8, then frankly I'm not that interested.

EDIT: I seem to be one of those rare birds who, once I'd applied a bit of customisation, am perfectly happy with 8 the way it is. Yes, I prefer the looks and interface of 7 over 8. But there's enough to like in 8 if it's given half a chance. Yes, I have Classic Shell, but I also use the Start Screen and even a few 'apps'. I'm greedy though, I want both Classic Shell AND the Start Screen, as I do use them both.

I think we're alike in that regard. Every time I boot up my system and see that tiled interface I go "oh Gawd, get me out of this thing". I've never been like that before. Once I'm at the desktop I'm pretty happy.

As far as this whole Metro/Modern/whatever thing, my fear is more for the future than the present. If MS keeps pushing this thing on "real computers" (as compared to tablets or phones) then the power days of really being able to do meaningful useful work are limited. Like GoodIntentions, I don't have TwitFace accounts either. I couldn't care less what 150 people had for breakfast. I do have an iPad, the first generation, and use it for eBooks and web browsing. There are some great specialized apps out there but I just have no need to use it for anything else at this time. But, that's me.

All I really would like to see is improvements for the desktop as well as a better "desktop" integration with my Windows apps. I had stopped using Start8 after buying a license, and I haven't seen any reason to turn back.

I totally agree about the development of the desktop, but the Windows Store Applications, (or whatever Microsoft calls it these days ) but they have removed elements of the desktop I think users of Windows have missed. Windows could leave the features for the power users that like to use the OS to it's full extent.

Sorry, but the way the Desktop is coded, certain things can't be enabled like they are with the metro aspect of WinRT.

I think the Desktop UI has basically peaked. There isn't anything more or less that can be done to improve it. You can't make windows on the Desktop more windowsy...

Honestly, I think Microsoft should change some things with the WinRT app regarding screen estate. For example, the calculator app shouldn't be full screen. Some apps should be in smaller windows if coded, and can be moved around with using two fingers on a touchscreen. Task switching with the metro app switch bar can be improved. A good multi-windowing UI with the modern UI can be more tiled than anything because honestly, if you look at some screenshots people have posted on the Desktop with a ton of windows open, you only can legibly make out two or three windows content wise, mostly you will see window chrome. That isn't efficient.
