Users Mixed on Microsoft’s Anti-iPad Windows 8 Ad

Microsoft's string of Windows 8 adverts LITERALLY do follow salesmanship 101 to the punctuation.

1. Introduce your product.
2. Show why the consumer needs/wants your product
3. Explain the benefits and features of your product versus a competitor
4. Justify price if it's higher or lower than a competition product

What Microsoft has done:

1. Introduced Windows 8 and Surface tablets in an eye catching, entertaining way.
2. Have shown that Windows 8 has a familiar Desktop UI, convertible tablet PCs for easy convenience, have shown that the Surface RT includes Office 2013 Home and Student
3. The recent advert comparing Windows 8 (RT) to the ipad (About freaking time! YES!!)
4. The recent advert shows the price of the RT tablet being more useful, functional, and less expensive

But on a related note, I am so GLAD they did that ipad advert, oh my GOD. That is EXACTLY how I would had marketed Windows 8 FROM THE VERY START! Not seven months later, but seven days later after launch. It gets to the point that the ipad is lacking and underscores the fact it is a giant ipod for old people. It shows the staleness of ios compared to the vibrant UI of Windows. It also hits home the fact that the ipad is SO much more expensive compared to the Windows tablet, for less functionality as such. Simple and effective, Windows 8 style.

Microsoft has launched an anti-iPad Windows 8 commercial a couple of days ago, showing everyone that its operating system makes every tablet out there a lot better.
Users Mixed on Microsoft?s Anti-iPad Windows 8 Ad

Hmm... Why am I not surprised? Almost 80% of your posts are ripped straight from the first page of Windows news from Computer World and Softpedia.

You must be a fan of Greg Keizer of Computer World and Bogdan Popa of Softpedia.

It's no surprise these two hate Windows 8. Thank you for reposting and kludging up the entire news forum of trash from those two sites, clearly on a mission to generate anything negative they can come up with.:thumb::drool:

Hi there
Rubbishing a competitor's product is BAD business anyway -- first you have ACKNOWLEGED that there is actually a product out there that competes with yours and secondly if the product is so bad you've implied that the potential customers of yours are stupid because they haven't realized that the competing product is rubbish anyway.

The sales / marketing teams really need to go back to school and take the basic 101 courses before putting out their puerile junk.

Cheers

That kind of ads is a declaration of insecurity. Knowing that something is doing well and ride the bandwagon by imitating it. So at the end, MS come out as a copycat.
Why do MS have to attach their name with another popular name?

Microsoft is taking a huge chance doing this - Because iPad's have been a proved tech for years, people will buy them without even looking at competitor products, they simply want an Apple product.

If the Windows 8 Tablet WERE as useful as I have seen iPads to be, I would applaud this - But so far, Microsoft has not proved this to me. If I saw a Tablet with Windows 7 on it, altered to work well with the touchscreen, I would consider it - If it had goods battery life - iPads have been seen to stay on for ovcer 9 hours, but the typical laptop only 3 at most. Macbook Pros last well over 4 hours, using MACOS, less than 45 minutes using Windows 7. Windows 8 on a Macbook Pro ought to be kick-arse. I;d like to do a Bootcamp using Windows 8 on a Macbook Pro.

I've never stated it here, but the best Windows machine I have ever seen was a Macbook Pro I usually maintain. Windows 7 works the best on that of any machine I have ever used. I'd love to get Windows 8 on one. If I could afford a macbook pro, I'd use it mroe than my desktops.

Lol! I'm assuming you're old enough since your profile says you're retired. I was 33 when I saw that game and that commercial. I didn't boot up my first computer till 10 years later, but I knew there was predominantly two computer companies > IBM and Apple. Not everybody knew of Microsoft, but they certainly knew of IBM. IBM = Business machines. I think I can pretty much say that the people in the audience represented the boring (ho-hum) IBM or business computing. Yes?

I think we can say that Microsoft probably would not have made it without the IBM partnership. Yes? MS-DOS initial release was August 1981. I think by 1984 DOS was on a majority of IBM computers. Yes?

No, They didn't bash Microsoft, but they bashed IBM in a roundabout way. Can we say that the IBM and Microsoft partnership was well underway by then?

Then, if my memory serves me right, after the Macintosh was introduced IBM started this ad campaign with the Charlie Chaplin look alike:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4oRVGbf9s0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

And Apple mocking DOS command line:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGmjr4p34Y8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Is the rest is history. :)

Exactly, people don't know that Windows 8 is out there to make rubbish of the ipad, the average consumer isn't going to figure that out sooner than later; which is why there is a thing called marketing to show that exact point. Call it murky, but that's the best way to market something like that. When you have a crowd of people that buy apple products "because it's apple," they're not going to acknowledge Windows 8 or android. Just the way it is.

But I STRONGLY disagree with you on a better touch Windows 7 tablet PC...um, it's called Windows 8. Go to the Desktop on 8 with a tablet PC, do the same with a 7 based tablet PC, what do you get?

Actually, depending on the laptop itself, battery life can get up to over three easily. Ultrabooks do this easily. RT tablets do this very easily. Atom based tablet PCs with 8 do this as well.

I'd LOVE to see a mac running Windows 8, I believe it would honestly look SO much nicer than the leather stitched, chrome polished UI of mac os x.

You have to understand context here. Back a few years ago in a college class, I think it was a marketing elective class I took, where we had to make an advertisement of a real product. What I obviously did at the time because Windows 7 came, was the mac vs. PC type thing. Drew it up overnight, and the result is actually quite similar to Microsoft's advert. Except it doesn't involve communists...

That is why I have a woody.

My Windows 7 tablet does everything that Windows 8 did on it, especially as all I use is the desktop. And what do I get? A better experience with Windows 7, at the moment, which is why I dumped Windows 8. I also get four hours of battery life using Windows 7.

People will still keep buying Apple and Android tablets over Windows, because there are far more apps available that don't just emulate what you can do, and often better, on IE/Firefox/Chrome or whatever browser you use.
