Microsoft is reportedly working out a different plan to boost Windows 8 and Office sales that would basically offer its upcoming products a better chance to succeed in the current market conditions.

M$ is opening its eyes maybe. No amount of money can counter word of mouth.

I don't understand the problem, we have people here telling us all is going swimmingly, the public loves Windows 8.

The details are in numerous posts. Seek and ye shall find.

I haven't seen anyone who claims the public loves windows 8. The predominant position in the pro-8 camp seems to be that it's not a bad system like people are making it out to be. I haven't seen anyone trying to make the case that the general public loves windows 8. The numbers speak for themselves.

For example, I have no doubt that windows 8 isn't gaining that many supporters, and that most people are indifferent about it. And I don't think it's any secret that I'm a fan of windows 8.

There are a few who can't accept 8 is selling poorly, or that a great many people don't like it.

8.1 is a new product offering coming from MS. I expect it will do better.

And as I've been trying to point out, I'm a fan of windows 8 and I don't think it's doing that great in sales numbers. Where I disagree with you guys is the reason. You guys think people hate it. From my experience, most people are indifferent about it. With all the iOS and android tablets that have already saturated the market and people's homes, there's really no incentive to get windows 8 for most people.

Poor sales don't always translate to people not liking or hating it. Usually, it translates to people not caring.

You're quite wrong there, we don't think people hate Windows 8 (it's actually the people who love Windows 8 think those that don't are the haters). What people don't like is the jolting change that Microsoft has introduced and a great many simply want the familiar back on their screens. The start screen is primarily designed for apps, not as a menu for accessing the desktop (but that had to be included until Microsoft can get rid of the desktop). Also, people aren't upgrading, unless they buy a new PC, because Windows 7 (or earlier) still suits many people quite well. And many of those who do buy a new device, like to get rid of the start screen.

Maybe people in general are more intelligent and sharper than MS anticipated:
And the study says: Windows 8 users rarely touch Metro apps | PCWorld

Looks like W8-metro also hit something hard, namely customer opinion. Maybe they'll get the pumps working, who knows.

You've obviously never read Coke Robot's comments then.
He seems to imply that he has never met anyone who doesn't like W8 (except on EightForums).

False.

I have met a few people who dislike Windows 8, but then again they just wanted a better Windows xp, their literal words.

Honestly, there is something wrong when in the main tech sites, Windows 8 isn't bashed upon so terribly but when it's a site DEDICATED to Windows 8, it's just a bright light for moths to come and poop all over the place with their ignorance, stubbornness, hatred, dislike, and pessimism with.

But in the overall majority, more people that I've installed Windows 8 on their PCs or did work on their new ones seem to just be fine with it, they don't hate it, they don't go to tech sites like this and sing praise of it. This whole start menu "fiasco" is really again, a manufactured issue by the IT crowd who have a more than fluent knowledge of Linux and believe whole heartedly that Windows 7 is the best and only best version of Windows 95 ever. Out there in the REAL world of the consumer space, Windows 8 isn't treated in a similar matter as such here and other certain forums.

I read a lot of tech sites and whenever Windows 8 features as an article, the comments section say the same things as are said here; the dislike of the Windows 8 start screen is universal.

Ask any tech company or any retailer about people's comments. Those who are satisfied and those who are indifferent rarely ever comment. It's those that hate that will post their comments. This often leads to false conception that a product is unpopular.

Where did this 'hate' term come from? It's consistently being used by some, as a derogatory term in an attempt to discredit any contrary comment.

The evidence is mounting every day that Windows 8 is not achieving the success that Microsoft desired. The overwhelming reason is because of the emphasis on the start screen and apps, and the removal of the boot to desktop option and the start menu.

If those who are satisfied and/or indifferent to Windows 8 are being drowned out by those who are not satisfied and/or indifferent, then that says a lot about its success (or lack of). In this case there are no misconceptions about Windows 8's lack of popularity.

The overwhelming evidence for the lack of success is due to the UI changes. It's the only thing that seems to be the common complaint.

Then how do you explain the lack of sales before windows 8 came along? Was it just pure coincidence that the sales of PC's took a nose dive at exactly the same time both the market and households were saturated by iOS and android tablets?

I've posted this picture before. I'll post it again.

Basically speaking, my sister's family as 3 kids. Each member of the family has an asus transformer infinity tf700. There are also 2 galaxy tab 2's. They have an i7 desktop in the first floor and an i7 laptop in the 2nd floor. They also have galaxy s3's. Do you see any room for windows 8 devices?

Windows 8 was supposed to have boosted the stagnant/declining PC market, or at least generate some renewed interest/excitement in the PC market, it did neither, unless you consider the hostility created by the UI interest/excitement. It was never going to be a panacea, but it sure wasn't expected to be a poison pill.

I have no idea what you are asking/implying in your last statement.

Yes.

You can upgrade PC hardware with new OS's.

I think the forum software got the quote acknowledgment wrong again.

Nope, not the forum software's fault. He didn't properly edit the dbcodes correctly.

Anyway, I forgot to mention that up until last year when I upgraded them to an i7 windows 7 machine, they were using an xp Pentium 4 machine for about 12 years.

Again, a lot of people out there simply don't upgrade their software and hardware unless they have to.
