Microsoft has taken a kicking over Windows 8 long before it was released in October last year.
But the software giant is taking steps — albeit with precaution — to remedy a number of complaints it has received over its next-generation operating system.
Microsoft corporate communications chief Frank Shaw addressed such issues in a blog post on Friday, describing some voices that "want to stand out opt for sensationalism and hyperbole over nuanced analysis."

So far the leaks of Blue only show minor polishing of Metro. That is fine for those that love the phone GUI. It does nothing to all for the "haters and whiners".

Those "haters and whiners" are the people that Microsoft want's to get money off. You know, their customers. Microsoft needs to make a product their customers want and not try and force on them a product that suits their marketing ambitions.

Lets hope M$ does address the desktop PC users. The back lash could really hurt M$ and all the OEMs. Why upgrade your hardware and OS to Windows 8 when what you have works and you consider Windows 8 a down grade.

Seriously I think that IF MS does NOT provide such basic conveniences which are important to a HUGE portion of their market, they will fail.

They can even consider the re-inclusion of the default to boot to desktop, and REAL start button/menu as a "goodwill" gesture to keep Windows users loyal.

If they don't put these CRITICAL things back in you will see almost all enterprise migrate to Linux over the next decade or so.

As far as I'm concerned if they don't provide windows 8 buyers a SP that will address the issues that "Blue" covers, they will get a major lawsuit not to mention more pirates boarding the ship.

@amoled --you are already correct as far as Office is concerned -- since Office 365 (subscription model) was introduced the number of people visiting "The Bay" or "The Kats" for acquiring(!!!) the last couple of releases of Office (2007/2010/2013) has risen astronomically .

Windows 7 probably will be "The next line of attack" too --especially if Ms is imbecellic or Bovine enough to introduce a subscription model for what is still a flawed OS.

I think also these days unless you buy some totally new Earth shattering piece of hardware you don't really need to update either your computer or the OS it's running on very often either -- for example I can't think of anything I need to do even in a Work place that the latest Office - Office 365 that Office 2007 can't do so Ms NEEDS to provide things that make people WANT to upgrade.

Just look at the numbers of XP machines still in use -- proves the point that updating stuff these days is not really necessary in a lot of instances.
