Acer To Pass on Windows RT

Acer planned to release a Windows RT tablet in Q2, but will hold off for now.

"There are still users looking for more versatile products," said Acer President Jim Wong. He went on to add, "To be honest, there's no value doing the current version of RT." In regards to his opinion on Windows 8, Wong’s opinion was mixed. “The launch was not ideal and the Surface tablet created some distraction, but Microsoft is now doing a good job of supporting its partners and explaining the touch-usage model to customers, Wong said.”

When asked about the company’s vision of the future, Wong clarified that a major focus will be placed on hybrids going forward. "We believe Windows 8 has some more chances. That's why we continue to invest in Windows 8 tablets," Wong said.

Acer Chooses To Pass on the Current Version Windows RT | Maximum PC

Acer has a huge product line of touchscreen systems, the one I worked on a while back would have been ideal for 8. But this is a tablet- If they could get full windows 8 on a tablet, that wold be nice.

The benefit I see of RT is the MUCH longer battery life, connected standby, and immunity to malware. It's more ideal for internet consumption.

Problem is though, x86 chips aren't there yet in terms of MUCH longer battery life (Qualcomm's CEO I believe touted how his Dell XPS 10 got about 20 hours of battery life), connected standby, and malware immunity like RT is.

Most tablets I've seen, get about an average of 9 hours of battery. I've heard of some getting more, 20 hours would be good, it would give you a whole day and then you couold recharge at the end of the day. "From Morning, til the end of the day" - The Kinks
