2 Reasons Why Samsung Could Beat the Apple iPad

    Windows 8 pre-release

I always got the impression that the ipad was a very expensive toy: small, heavy and incapable of doing any meaningful business functions. The Samsung tablet could be good if it allowed you to use a practically designed keyboard. The ipad's touchscreen makes it difficult to browse the internet or even answer an email.

I wouldn't declare the Windows product a success before it is even on the market. Remember the Zune phones?

I think there is room for all three.

The Apple enthusiasts will be difficult to convince to buy anything else.

The Android crowd will be in the more price sensitive market (see the new Google pad) and for those that come from the smartphones.

The Windows Pro people will be those that are looking for compatibility and portability with their PC and who dread learning new tricks. Those are also the ones who look for more of a PC type operational characteristic (e.g. Keyboard) and are willing to pay more money.

Windows on ARM will be more difficult to place. It is different enough to put it into competition with Android. That is where one of the price battles will be.

And last not least the apps will play a major role for many people. Without a good bundle of apps it will be difficult to convince customers - and that's where Windows on ARM will be weak, at least for a while.

to the toy part. I've always seen the iPad as being nothing more than a fashion accessory with a bit of web browsing, e-mailing and showing off your pics to your friends. I'm sure it's far more capable than that but that's what they seem to be used for and I include the iPad owned by my wife.

Doing anything meaningful I suppose is in the eyes of the beholder but it would not be of any use to myself as it stands. Hence I have a laptop for when I'm out and about. Irrespective as to where I find myself sometimes the wi-fi is brilliant and other times it's well..... a do you feel lucky moment.

That probably explains why I'm anti the cloud concept. It works fine in the laboratory or where you have a fast connection but that's not always a real world scenario if/when your travelling around. The Surface though is certainly a step in the right direction even though Win8 as it stands will never replace my Win7 setup. And bringing Samsung to the party could totally wipe the smile off the fruit company's face - Samsung certainly have the resources that's for sure.

    Interesting times.

Windows 8 will definitely win against iPad:
    1. Microsoft has lots of hardware partners (Acer, Samsung, HP etc.) to provide us with cheap and full-fledged tablet PC (As well as a variety of Windows 8 tablet PC).
    2. Surface and Surface Pro (if expensive) provide status-conscious people something to show off to others.
