I dunno. I kinda like it. Once you customize it, you can reduce the number of mouse clicks to get to an app.

Additionally, it's great on multiple monitors.

    When will I ever learn?
I really did try it again. But I made the mistake of following directions, like a good trooper, and after it installed 16 updates, it said to restart. I did, and got stuck in reboot hell...it kept running automatic repair. When it couldn't "repair" whatever it thought was wrong, it presented the option of continuing into windows or running its "refresh" thingy. I tried the "continue" option first. No joy there...it just went back to reboot hell, and started running automatic repair again. when it finally got to the option screen, I tried "refresh". It essentially ran the install over again (without anything very interesting appearing on the screen to tell me what might be going on), thgen ended up "Preparing". After about 45 minutes of this screen, I gave up, and once again restyored Windows 7. I realize there are several knowledge base articles addressing issues...maybe even this one???...but I never could get past what Win 8 wanted to doi first so that I could access those artciles. So I decided that Windows MetroBob 2011 had folled me for the last time, and am now happily back at my thoroughly tweaked and customized, smooth running, intuitive Windows 7.

    Hi there
For vmware you need to use Version 8 (you can download free for 30 days) - then it works fine.

BTW if you don't like the metro GUI you can disable it -- see my tip on W7 Forum or on W8 virtualisation Forum

Windows 8 Download Gets Off To Fast Start

Ballmer also revealed that a developer preview that went live for public download this week was downloaded more than half a million times in the first 12 hours of availability.

No wonder it took me 7-8 hours.

I don't understand. It says the installer is for Windows 8 with metro apps? What is that? Aren't those apps for a cellphone?

Windows 8 requires 20GB for x64? Is all this right?

My Win 8 x 64 in a pretty basic operation is using up 15.4 GB. Add 15% (3 GB) breathing room for a 20 GB partition and you are getting pretty tight, but it should run fine.
    I made a 50GB partition for it.
