Hopefully it won't be flat like that in the end. It's super boring and flat. Chrome is actually nice especially against the background that will probably not be solid colors but images. Also it just looks more alive. The squared flatness worked on the phone because there is a lack of customization but not so much here especially since we should/and probably will be able to customize the look of the desktop.

tseven, it's not only boring but... where are the software, the search bar (seem to replace by a menu choice), everything useful?!
For me, it's a crappy start menu. A very crappy one at that.

There will be no Start Menu in Windows 8. The Start Screen will replace the Start Menu -- Julie Larson-Green clearly revealed this at D9.

Look, there are two UIs... one for the mobile systems (aka the one with the touch screen) and the one will all know and love (aka Mouse & keyboard environnment with start menu, Window Explorer, etc)

The two UIs are for everything -- Desktops, Laptops and Tablets. The Metro UI works just as well with a mouse and a keyboard. The Metro Start Screen will be there in Desktops and Laptops too. But the traditional desktop is also going to be there -- except for the Start Menu. The Start Menu has been totally done away with.

Wow! It's like learning a whole new language - one that we'll HAVE to 'speak' in the future, eventually. For me, the best way to get familiar with the new interface(s) is to start using an iPad, which is at least, somewhat similar in concept.

I'm really a desktop guy, but I'm starting to think about getting one of those things

Yep, I think I may have to, too. And it does look like it's a lot of fun to play around with. Think maybe I'll start with a used one, from eBay --- sort of as a 'toy' to learn on.
