Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Office 2012: Estimated RTM Dates Surface on an MSDN Blog

Windows 8

*Thanks to Charon, a friend of mine from the Ma-Config.com blog, for sending me a note of this interesting find of his.

Chris Green, a Microsoft employee who appears to use his MSDN blog here-and-there, posted a rather telling product support lifecycle update on December 2, 2009. In it, he details not only the public information found on Microsoft’s product support lifecycle site, but he boldly goes where no one has gone before by mentioning not only Windows 8, but Windows Server “2012″ (Windows 8 Server) and Office “2012″ (Office 15)… with dates. Now, before I post these dates, it’s important to note two caveats that this information comes with. First, from Chris’ blog, found in his sidebar:

Big talk, to give exact dates. I'm loath to believe them.

windows 8 release date leaked. is it real?

It seems like just yesterday we were putting on our cardigans and hamming it up with complete strangers at our Windows 7 party, and that's because it kind of was. And with Redmond's latest OS barely three months old, there's already talk of Windows 8, including a release date that was supposedly leaked to the Web.

According to news and rumor site Fudzilla, former Microsoft employee Chris Green drew up a chart detailing Microsoft's roadmap for future product releases. In it, he reveals the following release schedule:

If you follow the links (Quite a lot of them!!) you will go around in circles. The original author's "Blog" page has been closed. And "Fudzilla" - say no more.

Microsoft would be shooting themselves in the foot to mention a date, or release even an RC, so soon. Big companies are still budgetting to purchase 7.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
These are the dates that were leaked:

Despite the fact that the old saying goes, "Where there's smoke, there's fire", I agree, it is too soon for specifics.

However, it does give us something to chat about whilst we await the arrival of Windows 8.:D

I don't think they don't have a schedule at least.
So I do think that it can be real, but who knows?

While we're speculating, I'll speculate that since Windows 8 will speculatively come out on the 4th of July that Microsoft will grace the release with a special Windows 8 fireworks display, complete with a flower grouping that will produce the Windows 8 logo in the sky.

If we're going to spread rumors, why not that there's an Easter Egg embedded in the DOS of Windows 8, type in the secret code and you see a aski-Zen00 dancing the Macarena across the screen.

In the recent windows weekly podcast, Paul Thurrot mentioned that Microsoft is doing more so that they aren't setting everything to a deadline, that they will work on a project until it is satisfactory. Apparently, this contributed in part to windows 7's success and other parts of microsoft are mimicking this behavior.

Just wanted to throw this out there~:D

I remember him mentioning about a week ago how other departments were imitating the Windows 7 launch in hopes of being more successful.

Win 8 Release date?

According to one of our competitors win 8 release date has been "leaked"

The Microsoft Kitchen blog covered the leak blaming Green for leaving the useful information buried in something else. The future product names in Green's chart are followed by question marks. Green's MSDN blog includes a statement that the opinions in the blog "are not intended to represent my employer's view." Green apparently was trying to provide a helpful overview of mainstream support and extended support time periods for existing Microsoft products. However the future product dates, which no one knew stayed in the chart. If Green's is right, then below are the RTM dates for products that Microsoft has not yet announced:

"Windows 8" on July 1, 2011.

I do not vouch for its reliability, but it is interesting.

Thanks for that Ken, its got to be rumour mill again, I just cannot see Microsoft calling it Windows 8 yet it will be given a code name first for alpha surely, then a year before launch it will be named
