Firefox to block Silverlight and Java -- but not Flash

could cause a few problems, how many web sites etc use java for example. I see it backfiring. I have already changed default to chrome due to firefox causing problems.

They are still giving users a choice:
Firfox will disable the execution of non-Flash plug-ins by default with a feature called Click to Play that lets people run each plug-in on a particular Web page if they choose.

Indeed, how many websites use Java?

IMO, it must be a minuscule percentage.
I don't have it installed and I can't ever recall seeing any "complaints"/warnings about it, when I surf the Internet.

Interesting. I'm running Firefox 18.0.1 and have my Adobe Reader, Silverlight plug-ins running and haven't experienced any crashing issues due to them being enabled. I did disable the Java plug-in due to the security concerns. The click-to-play feature sounds useful and hopefully "remembers" the website.

Kaspersky 2013 reports Java downloads as 'dodgy' and asks if I want to continue. I am on FF 19 when I run it, nothing on the java side has gone wrong, its just bloody FF does not like Win 8

What a stupid idea by Firefox. If it was optional, then fine. but it's a decision that should be mine to make, not the software or its creators. It's a pet annoyance of mine with MS as well, at present. Oh, and I've never had an issue with any of these programs, nor have I met anyone who has, and suspect that the number of people who have issues has been massively exaggerated.
Wenda.

Thank you, averchat, I must have missed it. The old eyes aren't what they used to be. :-(
But if I can enable/disable it myself, there shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks again.

I'm guessing you never will play Minecraft then. That's probably the one and only reason the majority of people want to keep java around by now. I would love if they coded that game in something more native and ditched java altogether, after all the game would run 200x better if coded (properly) in something like C++.

Not gonna happen though. Java's the reason people can play the game on so many platforms without much work on the developers.

They should include Flash also as its #2 behind Java in attacks. I have moved on to IE10 but still have Firefox and use QuickJava plugin that controls all of those.

FF was my default for ages with XP, Vista and 7 = then it started going funny. BUt I was not laughing. If Mizilla cant get it right pull it = get it right = then release it.

I default on Chrome now, so far no problems.

IE9 was pathetic, hated it. But not done much testing on IE10 yet, maybe I dont want to?
