Microsoft to launch new Office commercially on January 29

Finally, an official confirmation. Microsoft is launching the new Office, a k a Office 2013, on January 29.

There have been lots of rumors that January 29 would be the day that the latest version of Office would be generally available via retail channels. But thanks to a tweet from the Office team, and a #Timeto365 campaign/hashtag -- which I saw via Winbeta.org -- we now know Microsoft is "launching" the new Office on Tuesday in Bryant Park, New York.

Downloaded it today and really like it, particularly the clean, simple, minimalist "look and feel." I've been using it on my Windows RT tablet for a month now. Big improvement IMO over the 2007 and 2010 versions that I had been working with. I do need to figure out how to open Word directly to a blank document instead of the template page.

Start up Word. Go to File > Options. On the bottom of the window, uncheck "show startup screen... blah blah blah." Profit.

Saw it too.
didn't actually do anything for me -- much too "Low Brow" I thought -- but there again I'm not really in its intended market.

It was also advertising office 365 as well. (Subscription Model -- thin end of the wedge here-- but can be installed on more than 1 PC -- I think up to 5 but not sure . I don't like the subscription model so I wouldn't buy anyway).

Seems to be confirmed here as well: Office 2013 retail is.

I wonder if it reads details off the motherboard, so that if things go wheels up on the motherboard, you're stuffed? Microsoft just wants everyone on 365. What next?
