    Windows 7 is a great OS, but it does not work so well on tablets (which seem to be the latest fad following iPad hype).
    Microsoft needs Windows 8 to fill the touch friendly void fairly quickly.

    I think they are also well aware of benefits of involving enthusiasts at an early stage.
    We help identify deficiencies, bugs and potential user interface improvements.
    We also help generate a fair bit of hype which spills over to the workplace, especially if we if we think the OS is good.
    It doesn't cost them anything either.
