What is Windows 8 “Genuine Center”?

Images have surfaced on
winfuture.de of a new
Genuine Center in early builds of Windows 8. This appears, for the moment, to simply be a single place accessible from the Action Center where a user can check if their copy of Windows is genuine, enter or change their product key and activate it.
This does seem a lot of effort to go to, just to replace features that already exist in a perfectly usable form, so I would like to know what intentions Microsoft have for this ‘new’ feature.
