Windows 8 Leak Sites Closed Down
Microsoft appear to be getting tough with sites that have been leaking Windows 8 features over the last couple of weeks.
Sites such as winreview.ru, PCPortal.org.ru and wst-place.****.com have all closed, probably as a result of legal threats. Winreview.ru posted on twitter that:
winrevuew.ru is not exists [sic] anymore because it is pointless project for me now. not affiliated with MS requests

Sudden closure of many Windows 8 based sites and twitter feeds; Microsoft not involve
A number of websites that have been known for posting details and leaked images of Windows 8 have closed today. Sources have told us that they have received cease and desist letters from Microsoft relating specifically to leaked images and build details, though this could well be due to companies hosting the content being hassled by the Seattle based company.
Update: Both MDL and WinReview.ru are now stating that Microsoft was not the reason behind the closure. MDL have reopened their forums, though screenshots relating to Windows 8 may not be posted. Something has happened behind the scenes relating to Windows 8 screenshots leaked, more news is likely to come out soon.

Of course Microsoft is involved, who else can there be? After hearing all those stories about Microsoft being very strict about leaks, it'a logical conclusion that they may have to resort to extreme measures to prevent leaks getting to the public before an official beta release. We've been hearing tons of information about Windows 8, but absolutely none of them are neither confirmed or declined by Microsoft at this time.
What they should do instead, though, is to have more than one public beta for the general public and therefore prevent future, more serious leaks (as in actual builds that can be found and downloaded illegaly) before releasing the RC. Windows enthusiasts will be happy to send early feedback and help make an even better OS than 7, not to mention that smaller companies and open source programmers can test their old/new applications much earlier and be truly prepared for the release of the next version of Windows.

Sure Microsoft is behind it. they'd be better served to find out who is leaking, but it's perhaps easier for them to throw their weight around and prevent the leak sites from posting the info. None of the major "legit" sites are removing the leaked images and info though. Guess once it's "out there", it will stay. A Guy

True. It would be near impossible to catch all the sites and shut them dowm because of 'leaks'. But I bet MS would try. lol
It is probably more of a scare tactic just to let the sites know that they are paying attention to information and pics on the Win 8 leaks. I don't see any sites being brave enough to test if MS bark is worse than it's bite though. It is just not worth it.

I agree. Most little guys would have to be very brave and somewhat foolish to fool around with the 900 lb gorilla! Especially over something like this, cause legally speaking, they're technically stealing informartion from MS and publishing it. That's a legal no-no. And if they're putting out false information proported to be accurate, that could even be worse!
