First Windows 8 M3 screenshots of Aero Lite UI

The very first screenshots of Windows 8 running on the Aero Lite UI have finally surfaced. At first glance, you may not notice much difference. You can click on the screenshots to enlarge them.

You will notice right away that there is a much “flatter” look, similar to the Metro UI seen on Windows Phone 7. Only some of the Metro UI elements revealed yesterday are found in these screenshots. For example, the back and forward buttons remain default, but the set of buttons in the top-right hand corner of almost every Windows has sported the “Metro UI” look. It is likely that the Aero Lite UI is still being worked on.

In addition to these screenshots, winreview.ru also suggested that this may be the new basic Aero theme – drawn from the conclusion of the name. Features such as Aero Peek and Window Thumbnails are still preserved.

Although these screenshots may not be overly exciting, these screenshots give us further confirmation of the rumors and leaks we have recently witnessed.

At this moment, Windows 8 RTM estimates are still sketchy, with most clues hinting towards a date sometime in 2012.

Even funnier, the leaker's name is found in one of the folders on the desktop. Let's hope that's not really his name or no more leaks for a while xD

He's not the origin of the leak, so we're good ;)

I have a theory about the "leaked" versions. MS doesn't care, and may in fact encouage it to a point. What better way to test a proposed feature than to get it into the hands of the real computer enthusiasts. I went thru the Vista and 7 betas/leaks and am convinced there is some truth to my theory. I call it the Leak But Deny Theory.:zip:

Oh look, a black helicopter.

Actually I think they do care this time because they are doing something really crazy and new, and they dont want their competitors to know (Apple.) That is why we are seeing such a lame screenshot, the real UI is locked.

I hope that is not the only thing they are changing. Looks kinda boring still. Just seems flatter. But if it does look like the zune/windows phone 7 then it will be kind of amazing. Well to me anyways. Right now it still doesn't read as touch-friendly.

There is supposed to be an announcement about a new UI, so this won't be the only one ;)

Something different, the UI does need a change, has the Windows Aero UI was started when Vista came out.

Intresting...

Agreed. Aero UI is more than 4 years old and didn't change much from Vista to Seven.

The start menu and taskbar concept is very old too, I would like to see a revolutionary change in the interface, though I don't think we'll see that happening in Windows 8, except by the rumored IE10 touchscreen thing.

touch screen functionality is nice if it is done well. In windows 7 it was a joke. Yeah you could touch the screen alright but it felt extremely awkward and you couldn't close or touch the buttons on the windows when maximized. I was about to buy one of those touch screen computers thank god I spent time trying it out first. Basically touch screen functionality should be created without mouse in mind but instead with touch in mind. Then they can think about stylus but touch first.

You speak the truth. The taskbar and startmenu user interface was there like since windows 95 right? They really need a new user interface and not just a face-lift like it's always been. 95 to 98 was just a minor change in look same with me to xp it was still same old concept with the taskbar the only revolutionary thing from 95 to windows 7 happened when windows 7 added the ability to pin the program icons making it easier to access programs that you used frequently. XP to Vista was basically a facelift the windows and taskbar/startmenu got prettier other than that not much really worthwhile things happened. It took to windows 7 to really introduce some sort of change, which was nice but too little too late. It still had the start menu and task bar interface but at least there was some sort of change in the years that user interface had been introduced. I only hated vista for the fact that from XP to Vista which was probably about 5 years or so the only real thing that changed was that it got new graphics for menus and stuff. That was really disappointing.

I surely know, but I was referring to this:

It’s being reported that the next version of Internet Explorer might come bundled with Windows 8. This has always been a fairly likely proposition. However Win7China is saying that they fully expect the next version of Internet Explorer to be touch-enabled.

Anyone else notice the user in the original link doesn't actually have an Aero theme highlighted? It's Basic of the Basic and High Contrast themes section, possibly leading to the 'dull' feel no?

I call shenanigans that those are Aero enabled screenies of any variant.
