Microsoft mulling 128-bit versions of Windows 8, Windows 9
Microsoft is working on 128-bit architecture compatibility with the Windows 8 and Windows 9 kernels. Consequently, the company is also forming relationships with major partners, including Intel, AMD, HP, and IBM.

If that is true than 32 bit operating system will be a history (finally ). Besides these days 64 bit CPU's aren't realy 64 bit (expect Xeon or Itanium like CPU's) and I think that's a little bit too early to say anything about 128 bit CPU's. The same if we say about software. A lot of programmers don't use 64 bit code to write their software. Than what should it be with 128 bit software?? I don't see it in the next 5 years.
If they cant get ppl off XP, I dont see win 8 being 128bit. 64 only, maybe. I dont care either way I just post the news so we have something to talk about

No, People con't get off XP because theyget used to it and not it is better. They are stupid thinking that's better when they use XP. Xp will live for a few years until they realise that Most of hardware and software won't run on it. Also I don't see the point of making it 128 bit. We don't get used to x64 platforms and we don't fast. and that's the real problem of it.
win 8 is possible, win 9 is likely. why 128-bit? even greater stability, security, and i guess access memory. But who is going to have a gazzilion mbs of memory?

I think now is as good as anytime to start in the direction of 128bit. but until everyone has a 64 bit Os that is as stable but mostly accepted as XP it is aways in the future. Not to mention the web based concept. Fabe

128-Bit Kernel Support in Windows 8 and Windows 9:
128-Bit Kernel Support in Windows 8 and Windows 9: A Big, Fat Lie.
Caveat: Iâ??ve been sitting on the information contained in this post for quite a while now, but it has finally perturbed me enough to put it out there for all of you (and myself, for that matter). If you would be so kind as to help spread the word, that would be great as the lie has spread like wildfire and taken on various forms, such as sites now reporting that Windows 8 will be 128-bit (ridiculous). Not only that, but the perpetrator that started this mess needs to be called out with fair warning given to all. What you choose to believe by the end of this post will be up to you, but my intentions here are to help sift out the garbage in a community full of journalists who â?? like me â?? truly bust their butts to bring you solid, unique, and honest content.

Good article and several links from there, are some interesting reading.
I thought 128bit seemed a little soon after 64bit, which is still not widely accepted. Wouldn't make much sense to release this so soon.
Might have been 'leaked' to give the 'nobody needs 64bit' crowd something to focus on

The LinkedIn profile was a fake?
Writers at PC World, Ars Technica, Slashdot, and many other publications fell for an obviously faked LinkedIn profile from a supposed Microsoft researcher who claimed he was working on a 128-bit kernel for Windows 8. There's just one problem: This guy doesn't exist. No one with his name has ever worked at Microsoft Research. His job title is fake. Microsoft isn't working on a 128-bit kernel for Windows 8
