I belong to a world wide self-help organization with several millions of members who work on a pro bono basis. And my contribution is to help people with PC problems in my area. Almost without exception, everyone I've helped, has a tower, and a large proportion have at least one if not two additional portable devices ... most common being a mobile touch fone with iNet access, and a much, much smaller proportion a laptop or tablet.
I personally have two towers and a Sony Ericsson Android touchfone ... and a couple of archived dinosaurs for old times sake ... one with Win98 2Ed ... because I lke to unwind by sitting there in a semi-mesmeric state watching the progress bar when it defrags .... Triple lol!
Most of the the members of this orgamization are just average working class Joes. Execs and managers can afford to pay. And I don't do it because I'm oh so altruistic! I enjoy it as a hobby and it helps me understand my own PCs better.
I recently had a problem with a Thomson WiFi modem/router model TG782G setting a security password so nobody could access the modem from the IP address. This is seprate from the WEP password to protect your wireless access. Telstra's tech support, (Australia's biggest phone company), couldn't tell me the default password, even after escalating the problem.
When you open the modem interface via IP addres, after a clean re-set, and go to Tool Box > User management > Change password, it has 3 boxes: Old password, New password, Confirm Password. Aside from Telstra tech support, I researched it on Google and various forums and nobody seemed to know the default.
I tried mutiple different possibles, and after 3 attempts it would lock you out permanently requiring a modem reset. Quite by accident I found out why no one knew the default password. And that's because
there is no default password! When you first open change password, after a modem re-set,
you leave the Old Password blank; and just fill in New and Confirm Password.
That kind of thing can drive you nuts.
