Start Page work faster than the old start menu on Windows 7, you just have to get use to it, now if you install third apps, you will never get use to it for sure.
I have been running Windows 8 for almost a week now and while I rather like it, I can't say that I prefer it over Windows 7. I will continue using 8, as well as 7, because if 8 is going to be the future of new Windows OSs then I might as well get a head start on learning about them.
This question is like being asked, "Do you need air to breathe?" Of course yes!
I upgraded from XP which is now about 12 years old and will soon be unsupported. I figured the small upgrade price was probably worth the changeover, although there are some features I'm finding it hard to like eg the Start screen. It's faster than XP, though.
All I have to do now is get the %$&@!!* audio driver to work.
Heh, no one NEEDS Windows 8 well one "person" does, Microsoft themselves...
And for all those asking why people that dislike windows 8 are on or post on the forum. I can say that at least for those that post something more than "Windows H8!" We are ALL huge Windows fans and are/were expecting BIG THINGS from Windows 8. But unfortunately were given something we (for many MANY reasons) feel is sub par to almost unusable both physically and philosophically.
One reason to post on these forums about our displeasure of it's current state is that Microsoft is known to monitor this site and they WILL see your comments good and bad. As well as suggestions (I've made a LOT). Not liking a flagship product is not something that people /should/ keep to themselves or there'll be no hope of fixing it. (Yes, fixing it can satisfy current sated users and those that dislike it at the same time, in fact it should have been released that way)
Also, we all have our lists of things that need to be fixed before we can consider using the OS that we STILL desperately WANT to use. And like "Start 8" if enough of them are addressed, we can then move on it, so constant monitoring of the third party space is also required, this forum is great for that.
Two of my 3 huge "no go" problems are more or less fixed with third party add ons but one of the biggest problems still remains. But when the day comes that Metro apps can be resized and moved anywhere on my multiple monitors, and run at sizes dictated by their content and not my huge monitor, I'll then use it for real...
The real question is do you want Windows 8, For the price of $39.99 I upgraded. The last time I upgraded it was almost $200.
Windows 8 runs just fine for me. Right now I don't use metro. No app that I like.
XBox really lead the windows charge down hill with advertising becoming it's main purpose, gaming second. Heck I updated an exercise "game" not too long ago and suddenly everything was plastered with toyota ads out of the blue. It's sickening, I PAID for the app, I don't need to pay AND be distracted with the constant ad blitz that the entire universe is turning into.
And seriously, who on earth can argue that playing something like minesweeper at 1920x1200 blocking the progress of 6 other programs you were running is beneficial or desirable in any way? I don;t WANT to live in a world where that's how everyone wants their computers to operate
Or... What were you thinking of exactly?
Edit: For Laffs... (heh) Just saw this pic used on io9: http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/1857...jpg/xlarge.jpg
Windows 10 maybe? Heck XBox is half way there already, same with some of the Metro apps :P
