Windows 8 apps: The good, the bad, and the ugly

It’s crunch time. In just over two weeks Microsoft is hosting a massive media event in New York to officially launch Windows 8 . With the clock winding down, Microsoft is working diligently to improve some of its Windows 8 apps, but there are still some big question marks remaining for Windows 8 apps.

The most prominent and obvious change from Windows 7 is the Modern UI. The colorful, tiled
interface is reminiscent of the Windows Phone interface, and Microsoft has designed it with
touch-enabled devices like tablets in mind. It takes some getting used to, but once you master tapping and swiping to get what you need the
Modern UI is actually pretty slick. Still, for traditional desktops and laptops that lack touchscreen capabilities, the Modern UI just seems like a cumbersome extra layer.

Hi there
Windows apps !!!

It's not a mobile phone.

IMO 99% of them are just JUNK --if you want this sort of stuff that's what tablets and Iphones are for.

On a PC do I really need to know what the weather is on Planet Jupiter or how the stock market is performing on a planet "Many light years away".

Can you imagine for an instant Adobe going via an "App store" to sell it's CS 6 suite (includes photoshop etc).

cheers

Obviously you don't, we already know you are anti tablet\hybrids\apps etc. But yes, I would like to know this information whether it's on planet Jupiter or our very own Earth. At a glance I can check the weather and stocks Apps and get back to work, beats launching your browser, going to weathernetwork.com, search for my city then go to my stock market website and get that info. Do it with Apps in seconds or do it without in minutes.

It'll never happen, desktop applications are not sold through the App Store, this has been made clear many times.

I don't know about you, but I feel like a derp having to sit in front of a very capable PC with a large screen, mouse and keyboard, much more RAM, a better GPU and CPU than my Windows Phone, JUST to browse a few apps on my phone that would be better on said PC. Actually in fact, some of the apps I use on my Windows Phone are on Windows 8 and I far prefer to use the better device to browse those apps, which is my PC. Who the heck would use a four inch or ten inch screen to browse content when a 23 inch screen can be used?!

By the way, Adobe Lightroom is hosted by the Windows Store where you are routed to Adobe's site to download and install it. I wouldn't be too surprised if they did have their CS6 Suite on it in the near future. Just allows for another channel of reputable distribution.
