if they make a totally new OS, I think 3 years...
yeah it will have a totally new kernel i think and also a lot of new features, more performance and more stability
Making something perform better on crapware, as well as adding new features is rather difficult. While it would be nice if they could just snap their fingers and make a new OS thats flawless, it just can't happen like that.
Personally they should just start from scratch, New Kernel, Filesystem, GUI, etc. Even if it takes like 4-5 years.

You have to let go of the past sometimes.
They should do what they did with 98 and NT, develop a brand new OS as a side track to the current development, and then at some point dump the obsolete one.
A transition fase of a couple of years.
