    cloud computing

hi guys, my first post on here, just wondering, will windows 8 be the first windows cloud-computing OS? isn't that how the next generation OS will be? considering by the time microsoft will produce the first build of windows 8, chrome OS might be already out there next year probably, then microsoft might be interested to add cloud-computing features to windows 8 to make sure they are competetive, just some thoughts..

I think the key here is to understand that according to Ballmer they aren't going to build a whole new OS.
"Let me comment, though, about our own situation. What we really do understand is that the model fo the future brings together the best of today's rich client Windows-style applications and some of the things that people consider the best of the web. ... So as we talk about where we're going, we don't need a new operating system. What we need to do is evolve Windows, Windows applications, IE, the way IE works in totality with Windows, and how we build applications like Office, like the stuff we showed here, and we need to make sure we can bring our customers and partners with us."
Like you said akramh MS will 'add' cloud computing features to the next version of windows, not build a whole new 'cloud OS'

I think not many people know about Windows Azure (microsoft cloud OS project), I do not think it will be Windows 8 but I am sure cloud-like features will be implemented into future Operating Systems.

If you want to learn more about Windows Azure then go to this link: http://www.microsoft.com/azure

I registered and got my invitation token within 2 days.

Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure in the "cloud" that supports them.

The concept generally incorporates combinations of the following:

    * infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
    * platform as a service (PaaS)
    * software as a service (SaaS)
    * Other recent (ca. 2007–09) technologies that rely on the Internet to satisfy the computing needs of users. Cloud computing services often provide common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.
