Hi everyone
New release of VMware workstation (Rel 9) and updated version of Free vmplayer released

Works fine on W8 x-64 Enterprise RTM (TechNet version - not the "Leaked version").

In addition to the info in Hopachi's post

So far -- Unity has support for Full screen
USB3 works fine too -- that's what made it for me the "Must have " upgrade.

I get it free from work anyway under corporate license.

Otherwise 119 USD for upgrade.

(VMware player though Free no expiration).

Cheers
jimbo

How do you get VMware Workstations for free at your office? I manage our VMWare accounts and I'm not aware of anyway to get our VMWare Workstation licenses under any type of low cost program. I'd be very interested.

Thanks for the updates Jimbo.

That new full screen Unity also supports touch functionality. Too bad I can't test that out on my standard hardware.

The Player is free (VMWare Player 5). Workstation still costs to upgrade...

However, since the player now is able to create new VMs, it may be possible to limit the number of full workstation accounts you need and instead just install the player. Well it depends on your setup of course... Player is lacking in network integration features.

FSeal,

Yes, I understand. Up until about 6 months ago, I got by just fine with VMWare Player on my desktop. I ended up buying 1 copy for myself and another copy for a coworker. The coworkers copy was purchased 2 days too early to quality for the free vmware upgrade. We enquired with our reselller since we purchased on July 29th, but vmware won't budge.

Hi there
they say buy a "Corporate Licence" which I can use.

I assume it would be something like this but I'm not in the "Buying Dept". (This is for VMware workstation R8 - but I'm sure it's the same for R9).

VMware View | VirtualizationWorks.com

Now what the actual "Nitty Gritty" of this is I don't know but the corporate key I got from my colleagues in I.T support activates on my PC.

I just don't ask them any questions -- it's not my problem. !!

Cheers
jimbo
