Solved "We couldn't complete the features" When Adding Hyper-V

My 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 computer meets all the hardware and BIOS requirements for adding Hyper-V. Nevertheless, Hyper-V fails to install.

After attempting to add Hyper-V from Control Panel my computer restarts and gets to 93% completion of the work. Then a message appears: We couldn't complete the features. Undoing changes.

Event viewer shows no errors or warnings.

EDIT - Hyper-V consists of two components: Hyper-V Management Tools and Hyper-V Platform. I decided to install each component separately.

Hyper-V Management Tools installed successfully. Hyper-V Platform resulted in the behavior I describe above.


How can I successfully add Hyper-V?

I am indebted to the Kaspersky User Forum for this solution. I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2015.

The "Self Defense" feature of Kaspersky software interferes with adding Hyper-V. Disable "Self Defense" in your Kaspersky software and you will be able to install Hyper-V.


Once installed don't forget to re-enable Self Defense!


The Kaspersky team determined that this is a bug and it will be fixed.
