Split ONE machine into TWO concurrent HOST machines

    Hi there

With larger and more powerful machines these days I was wondering if it was possible to say split a 64 GB machine with dual processors (TWO CPU's) into TWO smaller but individual machines - assigning a processor to each and part of the hardware.

You could then run TWO concurrent HOSTS on REAL hardware say one Windows 8.1 and another Windows 10. !!!

Old mainframes did this (the IBM SYSPLEX type of approach).

IBM System z - Parallel Sysplex

OK we aren't running mainframes here but modern hardware is more than capable of being able to do this I supect.

Anybody attempted this yet - create two or more logical machines out of one - using domestic (probably top of the range) systems.

jimbo, you are running virtual machines all the time. Isn't that splitting the PC resources ??

Run 2 operating systems on one computer? Only one way to do that.

You may have 2 physical CPU's, even 2 hard drives, but you have only one motherboard. To manage the hardware resources on a computer you need an operating system. Two operating systems cannot share this responsibility because by their very nature they cannot even acknowledge the possibility of another.

To run two operating systems at the same time we need higher level software that manages the hardware and gives each OS the illusion that they are in control. Fortunately such software is readily available. VMWare and VirtualBox are two examples.
