You could install Win 98 in a VM using VMWare or VirtualBox or Hyper-V that comes with Win 8. You will need a copy of Win 98 with Product Key.

It is possible, however, did you have the license?
If you don't, i'll be happy to PM you the key (if allowed).

You can do that with XP as well. Just use the one that works best.

Win98 is easier in VMWare than on VirtualBox (no additions! other tweaks needed) or Hyper-V (not tested yet, is it even possible?)

XP works well on all 3 hypervisors.

Hi there
W98 is now considered abandonware by Ms so there's a standard public domain Generic official Ms key which works.

W98 Generic key : VP9VV-VJW7Q-MHY6W-JK47R-M2KGJ.

Note once you've installed the OS in VMware make sure you install VMWARE TOOLS otherwise you won't get full screen support or audio.

Cheers
jimbo

Hey jimbo, can we install KernelEx on Windows 98 VM so we can install things such as Chrome, etc (that requires XP and up)?

Hi there
Don't know -- never tried. Suggest you google and look for some Hobbyists Forums -- for instance I think there's even one devoted to creating drivers for win XP 64 bit edition and keeping that OS alive --actually was a good OS but never took off unfortunately - or maybe fortunately for Ms as we'd STILL be using it today.

Want to build an XP Pro 64bit machine - Windows XP 64 Bit Edition - MSFN Forum

Here's an article that takes you step-by-step thru setting up Win 98 in VMWare Player: Windows 98 on VMWare Player | DisCONNECT!

I want to thank you for link you posted. I was trying every driver I could find in the Sound Blaster archives and couldn't find one that worked even though VMware Player said to use the Sound blaster 16 driver. Now when I have some free time I'm going to try and load some of my old games in Windows 98.
