Heya so I installed hyper-V on my other computer because I wanted to get a program to work on it (googled how to get my Reason to work on windows 8). Since I couldn't find the suggested setting to just turn some hyper-V settings on I thought I dont have it on my computer. After installing Hyper-V though my computer went server mode and I have no experience of that. Now I want to remove it from my comp but dont know how and googling doesn't help :S I dont mind formatting the computer, nothing too important there and after the uninstallation of Hyper-V I will install xp on it too. Didn't like W8 tbh.

Thanks in advance!

thanks but no help, my computer is basically a server now. in MSDOS mode you know, only commands :/ It doesn't launch explorer.exe (and yes it wont do it I've tried) so I guess only option is to delete Hyper-v. Still haven't figured out how though

Put in a disc with another OS you want to install, and format the disk and install the new OS.

I'm confused....did you install server 2012 or did you just enable Hyper-V. As far as I understand Hyper-V is built into both versions of windows 8 (8, 8 Pro). You just need to enable virtualization in the BIOS and the turn the feature on in windows features. To disable it, it should be the same procedure just in reverse.

Hyper-V server is a free product that installs Server Core and the Hyper-V role, and can do nothing else. Full Windows Server can install Hyper-V as well (as long as it's not a "without Hyper-V" SKU), but Hyper-V server is the free product and Windows Server is not free.

So this is something different, this Hyper-V server, then what comes installed with 8 and 8 pro. I have 8 Pro and have Hyper-V enabled and running 8.1 in Hyper-V with a remote connection that allows me to see/use the VM in a full window. I didn't need to download and install anything special. So if Hyper-V is all ready available to windows 8 users, then why would you need this Hyper-V server thing.

What I've been able to find out is that this Hyper-V Server is actually Windows Server 2012. So the OP has indeed installed Server 2012, which he did not need to....So his only recourse is to clean reinstall his version of winodws 8....correct.

update: I did find the the separate download for the free version of server 2012, of all places a youtube link....go figure. So I stand corrected. You were absolutely correct.

No worries. To sum up, Hyper-V server *is* built on Server 2012, but it's been artificially limited to running in Server Core mode without the ability to install any other roles. This makes the server more stable (less patches and changes), still runs full Hyper-V, has no acquisition costs, and can be managed with enterprise VM management tools (like SCVMM and SCCM). You can't say any of those things about Hyper-V on Windows 8 - although the Hyper-V there is basically the same as on a server, and is intended for development and testing purposes on a small scale (and anything you build and test on your Windows 8 machine can be exported and imported into a Hyper-V server for further use, which is a nice plus).
