Hi there,
I recently tried to rename the built-in administrator account to superAdmin on my Windows 8.1 by running the following in the command line:

wmic useraccount where name='Administrator' call rename name='superAdmin'Now when I open the superAdmin account, I see the following:
20160207_165105.jpg

My start menu has also changed to the following (all other apps do not show):
20160207_165121.jpg

I see a folder named TEMP, along with the superAdmin folder in Users.

This is getting me worried; I feel like I have messed up the system.
Could anyone please help me out by showing how I can get the default built-in admin account back?

Hoping to receive a response soon.

Thank you

Hello jspake, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

Renaming the account back to "Administrator" using the same method you posted should sort this for you.

After it's fixed, you should be able to safely rename the account using an option in the tutorial below instead.

Built-in Administrator Account - Change Name - Windows 7 Help Forums
Thank you for your on point response Brink. I tried following your steps, but nothing worked. It still shows the same thing, plus another user account has been created in the Users folder 'TEMP.(current account name). Is there anything else you would suggest me to try? Thanks

After I changed the name from 'Administrator' to 'superAdmin', I notice a significant decrease in my laptop's battery life.

Best to leave built-in admin alone; renaming only changes the "surface name," it does not change the foundation name.
I take it partially back, there are steps to rename the foundation, however, that could lead to problems during a ReInstall.

Thanks for your response.
I read online about the built-in Administrator account iis a potential target of malware and hackers. That is why I had decided to change the name before disabling it again

jspake,

In that case, see if you may be able to reset the built-in Administrator account using the tutorial below. You may need to use the new name instead at step 5 though.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/38799-built-administrator-account-reset-default.html

I followed the steps, reset the account name and renamed it back to superAdmin successfully. However, I notice that the start menu is still the same and has not gone back to how it was before. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help:)

Great news so far.

I'm afraid that you'll need to manually "Pin to Start" any items you wanted again.
